目前旅游英語口語教學的現(xiàn)狀旅游英語是高職高專旅游專業(yè)學生的必修課程，要求學生在掌握專業(yè)知識的基礎上，具備一定的英語聽說能力、表達能力及與人溝通的能力。但是，由于受傳統(tǒng)教學觀念的影響，中國的應試教育模式已經(jīng)使我們的學生習慣了“啞巴英語”的學習方式。現(xiàn)狀是：一部分學生不愿開口說；一部分學生不敢開口說；也有一部分學生不會開口說；真正主動說英語者只有少數(shù)。在調(diào)查中發(fā)現(xiàn)，他們不主動開口說英語主要是以下原因：
（1）怕說出來的英語有很多語法錯誤；
（2）向來都不怎么主動開口說，感覺開口很別扭；
（3）一開口就會緊張，就會想不出要用的詞或句式；
（4）基本上不知道該說什么或該怎么表達自己的想法。
另外，部分高職院校使用的是普通本科院校的教材，缺乏針對性強的旅游英語口語教材，而且部分院校教材更換過于頻繁，教師疲于了解熟悉新教材，而無力把握教材講解和語言的實踐運用的有效結(jié)合，這使得英語教學與實踐運用脫節(jié)。而且，由于受到應試教育體制的影響和片面就業(yè)觀的影響，教師在英語教學中普遍存在知識傳授比重較大，生搬硬套教材，上課滿堂灌，教學方法單一、枯燥，語言實踐不足的傾向。而部分學生只注重考試的卷面分數(shù)，有的對英語根本不感興趣。加之，三年制的課程學習過程中許多學生不僅要顧及英語過級考試還要花大力氣在專業(yè)課程上，只得減少用于口語練習的時間，有的甚至放棄口語練習。目前旅游英語教學的現(xiàn)狀使得旅游專業(yè)的畢業(yè)生不能適應旅游業(yè)的發(fā)展需求，無法滿足旅游業(yè)對高素質(zhì)旅游外語人才的需求。所以，如何切實提高旅游英語教學質(zhì)量顯得十分迫切。
改進旅游英語口語教學的探討樹立學生的.學習信心，激發(fā)學生的學習興趣興趣是最好的老師，激發(fā)學生興趣要從第一節(jié)課開始。教學中，第一堂課非常關鍵。學生對第一堂課的印象往往會影響到他今后學習的信心和積極性。第一堂課主要是要鼓舞士氣，可以列舉一些通過努力自學克服英語障礙的成功范例，如李陽、教師自身，以及以前教過的學生的英語學習的經(jīng)歷等，證明只要有信心、肯努力就會有回報。李陽“我的誓言”內(nèi)容激情洋溢，切中學生心理，能夠引發(fā)學習熱情，讓學生將該誓言抄在筆記本扉頁，在學習疲憊時激發(fā)斗志。另外，針對學生怕開口易緊張的實際情況，教師在教學中應該注重與學生的情感交流來消除學生這些膽怯、緊張心理。前蘇聯(lián)著名教育家蘇霍姆林斯基認為“：情緒的力量往往是構成教學過程中最微妙最有意義的因素。”教師在課堂上創(chuàng)設一種積極而輕松的語言氛圍，能在很大程度上消除學生的緊張心理，增進師生情感。在課堂上，教師要能抓住契機，及時地對學生的進步給予充分的肯定，這對學生自信心的增強會起到有很大的效果。課后，教師可多與學生交流。比如，談談學習英語尤其是旅游英語的心得、聊聊其他的話題，這些都能拉近師生距離、增進師生情感，幫助學生輕松地面對教師，進而輕松地面對教師所傳授的旅游英語知識和相關口語操練任務。
創(chuàng)設模擬的語言環(huán)境，使課堂教學更真實化Richards和Rodgers（1986）曾提出，只有讓學生使用對他們有意義的語言去完成真實交流的語用任務，才能促進其語言的學習。因此，在旅游英語口語教學中，教師也要為學生創(chuàng)造真實（authentic）語言環(huán)境，幫助學生把旅游英語口語帶到工作情景中，使該課程的教學更加真實化。教師可以利用多媒體提供背景畫面，或利用桌、椅、杯子、書等教室里一切實際存在的物品，為學生創(chuàng)造一個模擬賓館、模擬餐廳、模擬景點，模擬機場等情境，使學生猶如身臨其境。
