　　Nowadays, international tourism is the biggest industry in the world. Unfortunately, it creates tension rather than understanding between people from different culture. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

　　Today traveling has become a lifestyle and international tourism is flourishing. Some claim that this trend has caused tension between different cultures, but I find such opinion flawed and hard to justify.

　　To begin with, international tourism eases tension between people of different cultures by improving transcultural communication. Cultural differences could cause misunderstanding. Certain behavior that is normal and polite in one culture could be regarded as offensive and rude in another. For example, westerners often address elder family members or superiors at work by first name. However such practice would be conceived as crude by people from eastern countries such as China and Japan. However, we find it confusing to interpret or complying with diverging cultural norms without experiencing cultural nuisances on a first hand basis. Reading as a second hand information source only partially solves this problem. Luckily, traveling gives people a good solution by the means of accessing a different land.

　　In addition, the growth of international tourism generates revenue for countries involved. Tourists create thousands of job opportunities for the host country. Tourism relieves employment pressure and contributes to unemployment control. Governments around the globe all know the economic benefits of tourism industry. A good example could be found in Singapore and Thailand whose tourism is the leading industry and primary source of revenue.

　　Moreover, traveling abroad help people improve language proficiency and increase their knowledge of another culture and people. It is not rare that travelers fall in love with the culture of the host country and work later as cultural ambassadors.

　　In conclusion, international tourism connects people rather than separating them. It helps people become friends and boosts economic growth. Far from causing tension, international tourism improves people's relationship from different cultures.

　　Leisure becomes a growing industry. People no longer used to entertain themselves as before because modern technology made them not any more. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

　　Leisure industry is now growing faster than ever. But with modern technology finding its way into every household, people have changed the way they entertain themselves.

　　To begin with, teenagers are spending increasingly longer hours playing computer games. Computer game first made its appearance in China more than fifteen years ago. Back then, it was expensive because children had to play in arcades lined with huge coin-operated machines. But now millions of families own computers or game stations. Game titles are widely available for people of different age. Moreover, computer games are more fun and affordable. So while children in the past read books or played dirt war and ball games, children now choose to sit in front of computers playing games. In fact, they have become so obsessed with computer games that this has now become a social problem of a global scale.

　　Moreover, adults watch TV in increasingly higher number and for unprecedented longer hours than they did before. Years ago, people did not have a lot of channels to watch. But now, we could zap through more than 50 channels for good programs. Moreover, people are under greater pressure than before. Even if many love to go outdoor to enjoy beautiful views and fresh air, they often finally stay home to save energy for work.

　　Finally, technology itself aims to change people's entertainment. Now very few of us have ever watched an opera or concert in a theater because it is more time consuming and, more importantly, expensive. But with the invention of movie, people started to switch to movie houses. TV then replaces movie as the number one entertainment, which has been caught up by computer-based pastime activities like Internet surfing.

　　We now have more options for leisure activities than before, but we still maintain many old ways such as reading a good book or playing sports.

　　To sum up, technology has greatly changed how people spend leisure time. While they spend more and more time in front of computer or TV, they still entertain in the traditional ways such as reading, traveling and sports.

　　Scientific and technological advances have changed our lives. But some scientists in some fields say that scientists are not able to find solutions to the problems they have created. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

　　We sure live differently from our parents did decades ago. The changes are wide and profound. At the same time, we are facing challenges and problems unknown in the past. Could we find solutions to problems created by scientific development? The answer seems to be no.

　　Some of the most obvious problems caused by technological advances lie in the IT industry. At a time when we did not have computers and electronic bank services, people took money with them and paid by cash. If they were stolen, only the amount they had with them was lost. But now credit cards are more commonly used in shopping malls and other places, crimes again us have become more serious and caused greater losses to people. A thief may tape the code of your credit card and make a copy of it. Then he could safely withdraw all your money from an ATM machine. Crimes such as this are very sticky to solve because there is no witness and the surveillance cameras give little help to the police.

　　Another example is the issue of information control with the media industry including TV networks and Internet that give easy access to information without discrimination to people‘s age. This has created a huge problem for parents and schools because teenage people are particularly vulnerable to adult materials and information violent in nature. In the past, when most information came in the form of print, it was relatively easy to control what children read. When a parent put away a book unsuitable for children, they were cut off from the source of information. With computer parents could use software to filter bad web sites but could not prevent new ones from appearing every day.

　　People are working very hard to solve such problems that come along with advances in science and technology, but the efforts are not sufficient and not very successful. Even with the little progress we have achieved, we find ourselves defeated by new problems with greater complexity and in wider scope.

　　In conclusion, developments in many fields of our life have brought us both benefits and problems. Developments in the banking industry give us greater convenience but making us targets of computer-based theft. Changes in media industry expose young people to inappropriate information difficult for parent‘s control. However up until now, we have not successfully found permanent solutions yet.
