Heavy rain and wind plagued Florida on Tuesday,June 13,as Hurricane Alberto hit land near Adams Beach. This storm started as a hurricane but,as it drew closer to Florida,it lessened (減弱) and became weaker until it was only a tropical (熱帶的) storm.Even so,winds up to 50 mph were being recorded by the National Hurricane Center.
The storm did cause some problems for homeowners in the nearby area of Adams Beach.Electricity to 21,000 houses and businesses was cut off,and there was minor flooding in neighborhoods. However, this was a small problem in comparison to the normal power outages (停電期間) that occur during a hurricane.
Although tropical storms are not as severe (劇烈的) as hurricanes,it’s very important to take safety measures.Lightning is a very serious concern,so people should stay inside their homes during a storm. Also, rubbish and dangerous objects may get swept into a flood,so it’s best to remain on high ground or out of the water in case a flood occurs.Folks trapped in hurricanes or severe storms should also stay away from windows.

Healthy Habits,Healthy Body
Feel tired lately?Has a doctor said he can’t find anything wrong with you?Perhaps he sends you to a hospital, but all the advanced equipment there shows that there is nothing wrong with you.
Then,consider this:you might be in a state of subhealth(亞健康).
Subhealth, also called the third state or gray state,is explained as a borderline state between health and disease.
According to the investigation(調(diào)查研究) by the National Health Organization, over 45 percent of subhealthy people are middleaged or elderly. The percentage is even higher among people who work in management positions as well as students around exam time.
Symptoms(征兆) include a lack of energy, depression(壓抑),slow reactions, insomnia(失眠),agitation(焦慮),and poor memory.Other symptoms include shortness of breath, sweating and aching in the waist and legs.
The key to preventing and recovering from subhealth, according to some medical experts,is to form good living habits, alternate work and rest, exercise regularly, and take part in openair activities.
As for meals, people are advised to eat less salt and sugar. They should also eat more fresh vegetables, fruits, and fish because they are rich in nutritional(營(yíng)養(yǎng)的) elements—vitamins and trace elements(微量元素)—that are important to the body.
Nutrition experts point out that it is not good to eat too much at one meal because it may cause unhealthy changes in the digestive tract (消化道).They also say that a balanced diet is very helpful in avoiding subhealth.

A young father was visiting an old neighbor. They were standing in the old man’s garden and talking about children. The young man asked,“How strict should parents be with their children?” The old man pointed to a string between a big, strong tree and a thin, young one.“Please untie that string,” he said. The young man untied it,and the young tree bent over to one side.“Now tie it again, please,” said the old man.“But first pull the string tight so that the young tree is straight again.” The young man did so.Then the old man said, “There,it is the same with children. You must be strict with them, but sometimes you must untie the string to see how they are getting on.If they are not yet able to stand alone, you must tie the string tight again. But when you find that they are ready to stand alone, you can take the string away.”
terrific非常好;well done做得好;I don’t care我不關(guān)心。]
23.A [考查時(shí)態(tài)。根據(jù)答語可知事先不知道此事,所以第一個(gè)空用一般過去時(shí);第二個(gè)空表示臨時(shí)作出的安排,因此要用will。]

While gogoing there, I told her about great changes that had been taken place here in the past few years and she had told me something about her country. Although I missed the film, but I still felt very happy, for I had not only helped her out of trouble but practiced my spoken English. If I had not worked hard onat English, I would not have been able to help himher.
