T: oh, dont mention it. It was terrible.
C: what the matter?
T: the food station was as crowded as usual. I waited for 20 minutes for my sandwish, and when I finall got it the chicken was underdone.
C: I see. You simply cant blame the server for this.
T: yes, I know. Fast food is so popular in this district.
C: thats true.
T: anyway, how was your luch, Catherine?
C: it was good. I brough lunch from home today.
T: you did? I thought you must feel right at home here as we get as many fast food restaurants as you do in America.
C: well, I personally dont like then because i dont believe they are healthy.
T: i guess youre right. More often than not, people go there only for convenience. The foods may taste good, but generally speaking, they are high in calories, salt and fat.
C: yes. I am wondering that you must believe fast food is your lifestyle, dont you?
T: you bet. Almost all top brands such as McDonalds and KFC are from America.
C: well, actually two-thirds of Americans may avoid these places.
T: seriously?
C: yeah, its hard to believe but true.

B: nothing special. how about you? Are you used to the life here in the States?
T: evertything has been fine for the past several months.
B: great!
T: well, I wish someone could talk to me about Western table manners
B: sounds interesting. Where did you get the idea?
T: as you know, table manners in China are quite different from those of Westerners.
B: absolutely. thats because both of us have distinctive cultural features.
T: for example, in China, its okay to talk while eating. However, you may regard it as rude.
B: yes. this must be a huge difference.
T: can you think of anything else?
B: sure. We tend to think that the slower on eats, the more polite one seems.
T: I didnt know that before.
B: and we never sip or slurp the soup loudly. we quietly like little mouthfuls.
T: i got it. ill bear it in mind.
B: dont worry. im sure our etiquette will become a natural part of your behavior as time goes by.
T: I hope so.
