The famous director of a big and expensive movie planned to film a beautiful sunset over the ocean, so that the audiences could see his hero and heroine in front of it at the end of the film as
they said goodbye to each other for ever. He sent his camera crew(攝制組) out one evening to
film the sunset for him.
The next morning he said to the men, ―Have you provided me with the sunset?‖ ―No, sir.‖ The men answered.
The director was angry. ―Why not?‖ he asked.
―Well, sir,‖ one of the men answered,‖ we are on the east coast here, and the sun sets in the west. We can get a sunrise over the sea, if necessary, but not a sunset.‖
―But I want a sunset!‖ the director shouted.‖ Go to the airport, take the next flight to the west coast, and get one.‖
But then a young secretary had an idea,‖ Why don‘t you photograph a sunrise,‖ she suggested, ―and then play it backwards? Then it would look like a sunset.‖
―That‘s a good idea!‖ the director said. Then he turned to the camera crew and said,‖ Tomorrow morning I want you to get me a beautiful sunrise over the sea.‖
The camera crew went out early the next morning and filmed a bright sunrise over the beach in the middle of the beautiful bay(海灣).Then at nine o‘clock they took it to the director. ―Here it is, sir.‖ They said and gave it to him .He was very pleased.
They all went to the studio(攝影棚). ―All right,‖ the director explained, ―now our hero and heroine are going to say goodbye. Run the film backwards so that we can see the ‗sunset‘ behind them.‖
The‖ sunset‖ began, but after a quarter of a minute, the director suddenly put his face in his hands and shouted to the camera crew to stop.
The birds in the film were flying backwards, and the waves on the sea were going away from the beach.

大多數(shù)人在閱讀的時(shí)候，有很多不利于提高閱讀效率的習(xí)慣。以下簡(jiǎn)介幾種：
1.音讀
很多人都有出聲閱讀的習(xí)慣。這種閱讀方式的主要弊端就是使閱讀速度和效率受到說(shuō)速度的限制。因?yàn)檎Ｄx速度幾乎要比出聲朗讀的速度快兩倍以上。此外，出聲閱讀往往以不同方式表現(xiàn)出來(lái)，有時(shí)是唇誦，有時(shí)是喉誦。讀寫(xiě)活動(dòng)都會(huì)影響眼睛的掃視速度。因此，要克服這種不良的閱讀習(xí)慣，就要養(yǎng)成通過(guò)視覺(jué)器官直接感知文字符號(hào)的視讀能力。
2.心讀
心讀是一種很難覺(jué)察到的閱讀習(xí)慣。在閱讀的過(guò)程之中，人體的任何部位，包嘴，頭喉都不動(dòng)。只是在心里自言自語(yǔ)，一字一句地讀出每一個(gè)詞。由于這只是一種內(nèi)在的說(shuō)話方式，因此要改掉比較困難。所以要強(qiáng)制自己在深入理解文章的同時(shí)，還要強(qiáng)制自己加快閱讀速度，才可以逐漸改掉這種壞的習(xí)慣。
3.指讀
指讀就是用手指，鋼筆或其他東西指著一個(gè)一個(gè)詞進(jìn)行閱讀的習(xí)慣。這種單純的機(jī)械運(yùn)動(dòng)不僅會(huì)嚴(yán)重影響閱讀的速度，而且還會(huì)把注意力引向錯(cuò)誤的方向。況且對(duì)英語(yǔ)考生的要求不是考其注意單詞的位置，也不是讓其在每個(gè)單詞上都平均花費(fèi)時(shí)間，而是讓他們把注意力集中在作者要闡明的思想內(nèi)容上。恰恰是這種指讀的習(xí)慣妨礙了眼睛的運(yùn)動(dòng)，并限制了大腦快速活動(dòng)的能力。因此，必須克服這種不良的閱讀習(xí)慣，逐漸養(yǎng)成用腦反映文字信息的能力。
4.復(fù)視
復(fù)視即回視，重讀現(xiàn)象。閱讀能力差的人往往過(guò)分依賴復(fù)視，以至于養(yǎng)成習(xí)慣。所以閱讀大量難度適宜的讀物，就不會(huì)因遇到生詞或不懂的短語(yǔ)，句子和段落而回過(guò)頭再來(lái)看，以至于養(yǎng)成復(fù)視的習(xí)慣。閱讀時(shí)要盡量控制自己，盡量做到一眼讀完就讀懂。如果這樣效果仍不明顯，可選用遮蓋訓(xùn)練法，即看一行遮一行，使眼睛不重看。這樣反復(fù)聯(lián)練習(xí)可見(jiàn)成效。
5.頭的擺動(dòng)
有的人在閱讀文章時(shí)，頭部會(huì)無(wú)意識(shí)地左右擺動(dòng)。這也是一種不良的閱讀習(xí)慣。在閱讀的時(shí)候，他往往會(huì)使自己的鼻尖對(duì)準(zhǔn)正在讀的每一個(gè)字。這樣一來(lái)，當(dāng)他順著一行字往下讀的時(shí)候，就會(huì)輕微地?cái)[動(dòng)頭部。而當(dāng)他開(kāi)始另一行時(shí)，就會(huì)很快地轉(zhuǎn)回去，以便使鼻尖再次對(duì)準(zhǔn)要讀的部分。這種情況下頭的擺動(dòng)，自己往往自己意識(shí)不到。而正是這種不必要的動(dòng)作，對(duì)閱讀速度產(chǎn)生影響。因此，在閱讀時(shí)要想辦法檢測(cè)并控制頭的移動(dòng)，以便養(yǎng)成閱讀時(shí)只移動(dòng)視線的習(xí)慣。
