The Benefit of Extracurricular Reading
課外閱讀的好處
With the advent of television, computers, and the Internet, reading has become more and more of a rarity.
隨著電視、電腦和互聯(lián)網(wǎng)時(shí)代的到來(lái)，人們用于閱讀的時(shí)間越來(lái)越少。
However, reading books in one's spare time has many benefits. First of all, unlike television or movies, books alIow you to use your imagination to picture the setting, the characters, and their lives. Secondly, reading can be done anywhere there is enough light. It doesn't require electricity, expensive gadgets, or access to the Internet. Thirdly, while reading can be entertaining, it can also help to expand your knowledge on any number of subjects.
但是，閑暇時(shí)間讀書會(huì)有很多的好處。首先，不同于電視或電影的是，書籍可以讓你發(fā)揮自己的想象力去描摹背景、人物以及他們的生活。其次，人們可以在任何光線充足的地方閱讀書籍，不需要電的供應(yīng)、昂貴的儀器設(shè)備或者網(wǎng)絡(luò)。再次，讀書能怡情，而且可以增長(zhǎng)任何學(xué)科的'知識(shí)。
Although fewer people now partake in reading outside the college curriculum, there are plenty of sound reasons for this fact to change. I only hope that we will see an increase in reading outside the college curriculum in the future.(131 words)
雖然課外閱讀的人比以前少了，不過(guò)有很多合理的理由能夠解釋這一事實(shí)。我只是希望將來(lái)更多的人養(yǎng)成課外閱讀的習(xí)慣。

A Letter of Invitation to Be the Judge
Dear Professor Smith, I'm Li Ming, chairman of the Student Union.
It's a great pleasure to invite you to be the judge for this year's English Drama Contest.
As the main organizer of this competition, we have been busy preparing for two months.
To our delight, everything has gone smoothly and it is just around the corner.
According to the schedule, there will be two rounds.
Twenty groups from different departments will compete in the preliminary contest which will be held on the next Saturday night, 7: 00 p. m., in the Student Club.
Ten groups will be chosen to take part in the final one week later, at the same time and place as the first round.
We heartily hope you can accept our invitation. It will be much appreciated if you can give us a prompt reply.
