Jerry was the kind of guy you love to hate. He was always in a good mood and always had something positive to say. When someone asked him how he was doing, he would reply, "If I were any better, I would be twins!"
He was a unique manager because he had several waiters who had followed him around from restaurant to restaurant. The reason the waiters followed Jerry was because of his attitude. He was a natural motivator. If an employee was having a bad day, Jerry was there telling the employee how to look on the positive side of the situation.
Seeing this style really made me curious, so one day I went up to Jerry and asked him, "I don't get it! You can't be a positive person all of the time. How do you do it?"
Jerry replied, "Each morning I wake up and say to myself, 'Jerry, you have two choices today. You can choose to be in a good mood or you can choose to be in a bad mood.' I choose to be in a good mood. Each time something bad happens, I can choose to be a victim or I can choose to learn from it. I choose to learn from it. Every time someone comes to me complaining, I can choose to accept their complaining or I can point out the positive side of life. I choose the positive side of life."
"Yeah, right, it's not that easy," I protested.
"Yes, it is," Jerry said. "Life is all about choices. When you cut away all the junk, every situation is a choice. You choose how you react to situations. You choose how people will affect your mood. You choose to be in a good mood or bad mood. The bottom line: It's your choice how you live life."
I reflected on what Jerry said. Soon thereafter, I left the restaurant industry to start my own business. We lost touch, but I often thought about him when I made a choice about life instead of reacting to it.
Several years later, I heard that Jerry did something you are never supposed to do in a restaurant business: he left the back door open one morning and was held up at gunpoint by three armed robbers. While trying to open the safe, his hand, shaking from nervousness, slipped off the combination. The robbers panicked and shot him.
Luckily, Jerry was found relatively quickly and rushed to the local trauma center. After 18 hours of surgery and weeks of intensive care, Jerry was released from the hospital with fragments of the bullets still in his body.
I saw Jerry about six months after the accident. When I asked him how he was, he replied, "If I were any better, I'd be twins. Wanna see my scars?" I declined to see his wounds, but did ask him what had gone through his mind as the robbery took place.
"The first thing that went through my mind was that I should have locked the back door," Jerry replied. "Then, as I lay on the floor, I remembered that I had two choices: I could choose to live, or I could choose to die. I chose to live."
"Weren't you scared? Did you lose consciousness?" I asked.
Jerry continued, "The paramedics were great. They kept telling me I was going to be fine. But when they wheeled me into the emergency room and I saw the expressions on the faces of the doctors and nurses, I got really scared. In their eyes, I read, "He's a dead man." "I knew I needed to take action."
"What did you do?" I asked.
"Well, there was a big, burly nurse shouting questions at me," said Jerry. "She asked if I was allergic to anything. "Yes," I replied. The doctors and nurses stopped working as they waited for my reply. I took a deep breath and yelled, "Bullets!"
Over their laughter, I told them. "I am choosing to live. Operate on me as if I am alive, not dead."
Jerry lived thanks to the skill of his doctors, but also because of his amazing attitude. I learned from him that every day we have the choice to live fully.
Attitude, after all, is everything.

4 Honorable Judges, fellow students: Recently, ther is a heated debate in our society. The college students are the beneficiaries of a rare privilege, who receive exceptional education at extraordinary places. But will we be able to face the challenge and support ourselves against all odds? Will we be able to better the lives of others? Will we be able to accept the responsibility of building the future of our country? The cynics say the college students are the pampered lost generation, which would cringe at the slightest discomfort.
But the cynics are wrong. The college students I see are eagerly learning about how to live independently. We help each other clean the dormitory, go shopping and bargain together, and take part time jobs to supplement our pocket money. The cynics say we care for nothing other than grades; and we neglect the need for character cultivation. But again, the cynics are wrong. We care deeply for each other, we cherish freedom, we treasure justice, and we seek truth. Last week, thousands of my fellow students had their blood type tested in order to make a contribution for the children who suffer from blood cancer. As college students, we are adolescents at the critical turning point in our lives.
We all face a fundamental choice: cynicism or faith, each will profoundly impact our future, or even the future of our country. I believe in all my fellow classmates. Though we are still inexperienced and even a little bit childish. I believe that we have the courage and faith to meet any challenge and take on our responsibilities. We are preparing to assume new responsibilities and tasks, and to use the education we have received to make our world a better place. I believe in our future.
The greatest results in life are usually attained by simple means, and the exercise of ordinary qualities. The common life of every day, affords ample opportunities for acquiring experience of the best kind.
Fortune has often been blamed for her blindness. Those who look into practical life will find that fortune is usually on the side of the industrious, as the winds and waves are on the side of the best navigators. In the pursuit of even the highest branches of human inquiry, the commoner qualities are found the most useful, such as common sense, attention, application, and perseverance.
Genius may not be necessary, though even genius of the highest sort does not disdain the use of these ordinary qualities. The very greatest men have been among the least believers in the power of genius, and as worldly wise and persevering as successful men of the commoner sort. Some have even defined genius to be only common sense intensified. A distinguished teacher and president of a college spoke of it as the power of making ef forts. John Foster held it to be the power of lighting one's own fire.
Newton's was unquestionably a mind of the very highest order, and yet, when asked by what means he had worked out his extraordinary discoveries, he modestly answered, "By always thinking unto them." At another time he thus expressed his method of study: "I keep the subject continually before me, and wait till the first dawnings open slowly by little and little into a full and clear light." It was in Newton's case, as in every other, only by diligent application and perseverance that his great reputation was achieved.
Dalton, the chemist, repudiated the notion of his being "a genius," attributing everything which he had accomplished to simple industry and accumulation. John Hunter said of himself, "My mind is like a beehives; but full as it is of buzz and apparent confusion, it is yet full of order and regularity, and food collected with incessant industry from the choiceset stores of nature. "
We have, indeed, but to glance at the biographies of great men to find that the most distinguished inventors, artists, thinkers, and workers of all kinds, owe their success, in a great measure, to their indefatigable industry and application.

Good afternoon everyone,Today I would like to talk about the importance of time
management. Time is one of the most precious resources we have, yet we often find ourselves wasting it or not using it effectively.
Effective time management can help us achieve our goals, reduce stress, and improve our overall quality of life. When we manage our time well, we are able to prioritize our tasks, meet our deadlines, and have time for the things that matter most to us.
However, poor time management can have negative consequences. It can lead to missed deadlines, poor performance, and increased stress. We may find ourselves overwhelmed and struggling to keep up with our responsibilities.
So how can we improve our time management skills? The first step is to identify our priorities and set goals. We can then create a schedule or a to-do list to help us stay organized and focused. It’s important to break down large tasks into smaller, manageable ones, and to allocate time for both work and leisure activities.
We can also eliminate or minimize distractions that eat away at our time. This can mean turning off our phones or social media notifications while working, or delegating tasks to others when possible. And don’t forget to take breaks and rest – it’s important to recharge and refocus in order to be productive. In conclusion, time management is a crucial skill that can help us achieve success and happiness in all areas of our lives. By setting goals, creating schedules, minimizing distractions, and taking breaks, we can make the most of our time and achieve our full potential. Thank you.

Wherever you are,and whoever you may be, there is one thing in which you and I are just alike, at this moment, and in all the moments of our existence. We are not at rest; we are on a journey. Our life is not a mere fact; it is a movement, a tendency, a steady, ceaseless progress towards an unseen goal. We are gaining something, or losing something, every day. Even when our position and our character seem to remain precisely the same, they are changing. For the mere advance of time is a change. It is not the same thing to have a bare field in January and in July. The season makes the difference. The limitations that are childlike in the child are childish in the man.
Everything that we do is a step in one direction or another. Even the failure to do something is in itself a deed. It sets us forward or backward. The action of the negative pole of a magnetic needle is just as real as the action of the positive pole. To decline is to accept the other alternative.
Are you richer today than you were yesterday? No? Then you are a little poorer. Are you better today than you were yesterday? No? Then you are a little worse. Are you nearer to your port today than you were yesterday? Yes, you must be a little nearer to some port or other; for since your ship was first launched upon the sea of life you have never been still for a single moment; the sea is too deep, you could not find an anchorage if you would; there can be no pause until you come into port.

Good afternoon everyone,Today I want to talk about the importance of reading. Reading is not only a great source of knowledge and information, but also a way to develop our imagination, creativity, and critical thinking skills.
Firstly, reading helps us expand our knowledge and understanding of the world around us. Through reading, we can learn about different cultures, historical events, and ideas that we may not have encountered otherwise. This can help us develop a broader perspective and a deeper understanding of the world we live in.
Secondly, reading can also enhance our imagination and creativity. When we read, we enter into a world created by the author and are able to visualize scenes and characters in our minds. This can help us develop our own creativity and imagination, as well as empathize with others by putting ourselves in their shoes.
Thirdly, reading can improve our critical thinking skills. When we read, we are exposed to different ideas and perspectives, and we are forced to think critically about the information presented to us. This can help us develop our ability to analyze, evaluate, and synthesize information – skills that are valuable in both academic and professional settings.
In conclusion, reading is an essential skill that can help us expand our knowledge and understanding of the world, enhance our imagination and creativity, and improve our critical thinking skills. By reading regularly, we can enrich our lives and become more informed, empathetic, and engaged citizens. Thank you.

Dear fellow students,Today I would like to talk about the power of music. Music is a form of art that has always been a part of human civilization. It has the power to move us, to touch our hearts and to inspire us.
Music has the power to express emotions and feelings that cannot be put into words. It can be used to convey messages, to tell stories and to bring people together. Music has been used to inspire people to change the world, to fight for what they believe in and to make a difference.
Music also has the power to heal. It has been proven that music can reduce stress, relieve pain and even help people recover from illness. Music therapy is now being used in hospitals and clinics to help patients with various conditions.
Music can also enhance our learning and creativity. Studies have shown that listening to music can improve our memory and concentration. Playing a musical instrument can also enhance our motor skills, coordination and cognitive development.
In conclusion, music is a powerful medium that can have a profound impact on our lives. Whether we are listening to it, playing it or singing it, music has the power to inspire, heal and transform us. So let us embrace the power of music and let it enrich our lives. Thank you.

Dear schoolmates,
As I'm graduating, I'd like to write this letter to express my feelings before leaving school.Looking back at the last three years of my high school life, I am very proud that I have gained a lot. Apart from learning much knowledge in different subjects, I also learnt how to be a qualified student or a real person. Due to the help of my teachers, I know the significance of being honest, confident and warm-hearted. I really appreciate the devotion that my teachers paid.
Despite the achievements I have made, I have pities during my high school life. I think I should have exercised more rather than study all the time. After all, healthy is vital to us all.
After graduating from high school, I'll enter college, a place where I may meet many challenges. I'll live in college instead of living at home, which requires me to be independent. How to communicate with students who come from different cities is also a challenge.
I suggest you studying hard and building a strong body during your high school lives. Only in this way can you achieve more and have a better future.

Why does football get people into a frenzy?
Who is your idol? It may be Napoleon, Picasso, or Michael Jackson. But who is my idol? Can you guess? It is Ronaldo. He is the No. 1 super star of football.
Football is a game in which 22 people chase one ball around a large field. The aim of the game is to get the ball into the net to score.
After all, it’s such an easy game, and yet people go crazy mad over it. The answer lies in two facts. One is the game itself. Sometimes it is beyond any description. Football is a game of passes and techniques, passion and love, more importantly, unity is the key---the whole team working as one, united they will never be defeated.
The European’s style. of play is like a Waltz, the Brazilian like a Samba, and the passionate Argentineans play as if they are doing a Tango. Football is so unpredictable, so unbelievable. You will never know who will win until the last minute. Especially when suddenly there is a goal, the fans who have been sitting on the edge of their seats, will be wild with joy and excitement; and the losers with disappointed hearts will despair over their teams.
The other is of course the super stars. Each one has his own personality, just like my idol Ronaldo. When he smiles, we all smile with him. Who can forget that buck-toothed smile, or that unique hairstyle. during the 20xx World Cup. Ronaldo was born to a poor family. He has set an example to children who can’t afford a pair of shoes, but have talent and a passion for football. He gives them confidence and hope of a better future.
Football is the game that wins everyone’s heart and the best game ever invented.

Hi everybody.
Beauty usually refers to what appeals to the eye. A nice and well built girl is regarded as beautiful. A bunch of vigorous flowers are also considered as beautiful. A splendid waterfall coming down from a mountain is as well looked on as beautiful.
Beauty also refers to what appeals to the mind. The virtue of the Chinese nation-industry and bravery are taken as beautiful, because it helped to produce such a magnificent culture in the world. Einstein's theory of relativity is also perceived as beautiful, for it explains many natural phenomena so perfectly.
Beauty is around us. If you keep an eye or pay some attention, it is never difficult to find something beautiful somewhere about you. Wonderful natural spots, historical relics, fine arts, splendid buildings, and kind people are just a few inches away.
thank you.

Hello, I’m Severn Suzuki speaking for E.C.O. – The Environmental Children’s Organisation.
We are a group of twelve and thirteen-year-olds from Canada trying to make a difference:Vanessa Suttie, Morgan Geisler, Michelle Quigg and me. We raised all the money ourselves to come six thousand miles to tell you adults you must change your ways. Coming here today, I have no hidden agenda. I am fighting for my future.
Losing my future is not like losing an election or a few points on the stock market. I am here to speak for all generations to come.
I am here to speak on behalf of the starving children around the world whose cries go unheard.
I am here to speak for the countless animals dying across this planet because they have nowhere left to go. We cannot afford to be not heard.
I am afraid to go out in the sun now because of the holes in the ozone. I am afraid to breathe the air because I don’t know what chemicals are in it.
I used to go fishing in Vancouver with my dad until just a few years ago we found the fish full of cancers. And now we hear about animals and plants going extinct every day — vanishing forever.
In my life, I have dreamt of seeing the great herds of wild animals, jungles and rainforests full of birds and butterfilies, but now I wonder if they will even exist for my children to see.
Did you have to worry about these little things when you were my age?
All this is happening before our eyes and yet we act as if we have all the time we want and all the solutions. I’m only a child and I don’t have all the solutions, but I want you to realise, neither do you!
You don’t know how to fix the holes in our ozone layer. You don’t know how to bring salmon back up a dead stream. You don’t know how to bring back an animal now you can’t bring back forests that once grew where there is now desert. If you don’t know how to fix it, please stop breaking it!
Here, you may be delegates of your governments, business people, organisers, reporters or poiticians – but really you are mothers and fathers, brothers and sister, aunts and uncles – and all of you are somebody’s child.
I’m only a child yet I know we are all part of a family, five billion strong, in fact, 30 million species strong and we all share the same air, water and soil — borders and governments will never change that.
I’m only a child yet I know we are all in this together and should act as one single world towards one single goal.
In my anger, I am not blind, and in my fear, I am not afraid to tell the world how I feel.
In my country, we make so much waste, we buy and throw away, buy and throw away, and yet northern countries will not share with the needy. Even when we have more than enough, we are afraid to lose some of our wealth, afraid to share.
In Canada, we live the privileged life, with plenty of food, water and shelter — we have watches, bicycles, computers and television sets.
Two days ago here in Brazil, we were shocked when we spent some time with some children living on the streets. And this is what one child told us: "I wish I was rich and if I were, I would give all the street children food, clothes, medicine, shelter and love and affection."
If a child on the street who has nothing, is willing to share, why are we who have everyting still so greedy?
I can’t stop thinking that these children are my age, that it makes a tremendous difference where you are born, that I could be one of those children living in the Favellas of Rio; I could be a child starving in Somalia; a victim of war in the Middle East or a beggar in India.
I’m only a child yet I know if all the money spent on war was spent on ending poverty and finding environmental answers, what a wonderful place this earth would be!
At school, even in kindergarten, you teach us to behave in the world. You teach us: not to fight with others, to respect others, to clean up our mess, not to hurt other creatures, to share – not be greedy.
Then why do you go out and do the things you tell us not to do?
Do not forget why you’re attending these conferences, who you’re doing this for — we are your own children. You are deciding what kind of world we will grow up in. Parents should be able to comfort their children by saying "everyting’s going to be alright" , "we’re doing the best we can" and "it’s not the end of the world".
But I don’t think you can say that to us anymore. Are we even on your list of priorities? My father always says "You are what you do, not what you say."
Well, what you do makes me cry at night. You grown ups say you love us. I challenge you, please make your actions reflect your words. Thank you for listening

Respect teacher, dear students: I am a number, today, the topic of my speech is "flying dreams".
Flying dream, light the hope. The eighteenth big attracted worldwide attention, now, everyone is talking about the Chinese dream, xi jinping, general secretary, said: "I think that, to achieve the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, is the Chinese nation in modern times the greatest dream". The teacher gave us interpret this sentence said: "the Chinese dream is to realize the national prosperity, national rejuvenation, people's happiness." As a primary school student, I want to say that my "dream" is to become a great writer, like bing xin's grandmother to return parents with their patriotic enthusiasm, dedication to the motherland!
"Chinese dream" let me remember a celebrity once said: the happiest thing in the world, is to struggle for a noble ideal. Language lesson I learned on - as long as the dream through struggle, it may become a reality. Even if you don't succeed, I also don't regret, because, at least I tried, struggle.
In the third grade, weeks is project on Thursdays. It was my first time to write the real article, always fear to write in the heart is bad, will be criticized by the teacher, students will be a joke. According to the guidance of the teacher, I just want to clear through after school life. The teacher emphasized to highlight the word "wonderful". The more I think more difficult, I don't know how to show the "wonderful". Was particularly annoyed, I remember the teacher said: "the interesting plot, intense scenes, moving pictures, different name is wonderful." So I decided to write the last story competition.
In the article. Write me to the competition area, at the sight of the lively scene, was tense. Write this part I highlighted the psychological activity in particular. Then I wrote the game process, especially wrote my performance on the stage. Hands began to tremble, head of words don't obedient, hide, also can not find out, is really urgent person. Casual glance, I am a teacher in the audience smile raise me up, mother in the audience the thumbs-up sign, let me have the confidence, strange to say, those who hide and seek with me words, sentences active appeared, I speak story has special devotion, applause dropped, I overcome myself, finished the story, also won the second prize. In the paper, I also wrote a bring me the joy of leisure activity.
I put the paper for the first time, the teacher praised me to use a lot at ordinary times the accumulation of words, there are a lot of wonderful expression, said I was a young writer. I hear my became a little writer, thought from his great writer dream, close to the many. The heart indescribably happy.
"Without the continuous bitter cold, how have no rainbow had the eyes no tears", learning to let me see only study hard, will succeed. As long as is a game, I want to attend, exercise self in order to achieve my dream.
China is also a dream, I dream. China is day by day prosperous, the Chinese are day by day rich. If China is an ocean, I am a drop of water, only hundreds of millions of water droplets together, can become the sea. I want to fly dream, thousands of people to fly dream, China dream can be realized to fly over.
Fly, my dream! The Chinese dream, fly!
