In recent years, distant education has generally been brought into the public focus. A large number of universities have offered open courses on the internet. However, just as the saying goes, “so many people, so many minds.” People from different backgrounds take divergent views concerning this case.
Those who have already benefited from practicing it sing high praise of it. They come up with the attitude that distant education has provided a wider way for students to learn various cultures around all over the world. It is a more convenient way for students to broaden their horizon. However, there are also some others who contend that various kinds of open courses on the internet will bring some chaos to students. Students who are exposed to too many different courses and cultures will have difficulty in distinguishing the passive ones and the opposite.
Taking into consideration both sides of the issue, I am inclined to be on the side of the former opinion. I strongly approve of the motion that distant education is a convenient and important way for students to get in touch with foreign culture, especially for those who major in foreign language learning. But at the same time, I also advocate that students should pay more attention to choose proper subjects rather than accept them entirely.

The above point is certainly wrong; this essay will outline three reasons.
The main reason is that students study will be delayed and disadvantaged. The academic knowledge of students will be hard to make greater progress in order to practical training and employment experience. In this special period of life, students have the best memory and intellect. If they do not work hard at study, they will lose it that could be balanced by neither good employment experience nor information of outside classroom. If students choose to carefully study academic knowledge in the university, they would gain a better future.
Another reason is that current knowledge of students is not enough capable to face practical trainings requirements. If students are not taught professional theoretical knowledge, they just depend on the basal academic knowledge that they studied in the high school. In fact, they are really difficult to progress real practical training and gain abundant employment experience.
Last but not the least reason is the professional theoretical knowledge that it is necessary to work of future. For instance, when I graduated from university, I did not have any employment experience. But, I was hired a famous network company. I could gain this work chance, only, because of my professional theoretical knowledge.

Secondly, in terms of national growth, the advancement of a nation is characterized by its greatness of high education. In this sense, universities are the centers of research and academic exploration. Take the United States for instance. Among the top 100 universities in the world, the majority of them are located in the United States. The advancement of US high education is indicative of the fact that those universities produce the most Nobel Prize laureates in comparison with other countries. American universities also turn out to be a magnet for most smart students around the world. In my opinion,diploma may be more important in the old time of China since there were few university students,while it is not the same case today.
The importance of ability and diploma both depends on how it is recognized by the company or how it is related to the employees salaries.A person who holds a diploma is considered to be higher educated and thus relatively has higher opportunity to enter the door of a company.However,it becomes worthless if the person is lack of practical ability.As there are too many graduates,most of the companies prefer give an interview to choose the abler one,instead of offering training afterward.It happens because employers think a good academic student may not be good at using their knowledge in the workplace.
Therefore,the trend of companies recruitment system indicates that ability becomes more and more important nowadays.

The surprising fact that I discovered during my first year at the university was that quite a bignumber of students were solely motivated by the academic degree they would obtain upongraduation. Certainly, I would not go anywhere near so far as to doubt the social and economicvalue that a degree would bring to students in future. However, I deem it too nar row forstudents to maintain this kind of attitude towards their studies.
In my mind, university life contain s many enjoyable things, such as new ideas, good booksand brilliant people. And the pursuit of new ideas, the reading of good books and the camp usf riends hip r equire a students complete devotion but will shine in his whole life.
Probably this tendency is rooted in the vocation-oriented and the career-oriented motivation. If a student discovers his vocation, he finds a life-time pleas ure in pursuing his profession. Bycontrast, a career-oriented student tends to take the academic certificate as an only means topreferment.
In conclusion, the university provides students with many golden opportunities, getting adegree being one of them. The challenge of new ideas, the leisure to read and the chance tomeet people are equally important. Anyway, a broad mind adds so much to the value of adegree.
