China is faced with some enormous challenges as it enters the 21st century. In order to ensure the prosperity of our nation and its future generations we must confront and ultimately solve these challenges.
Some of the more pressing issues facing China are universal. These include environmental degradation, over population and the effects of globalization.
To overcome some of the things we need to implement include:
Enhancing our scientific and industrial technologies in such areas as IT, Bio- tech, AI and Cybernetics.
Further develop public infrastructure in under developed regions.
Promote education reform at all levels.
Introduce sustainable development initiatives.
The implementation of free trade agreement between China and ASEAN.
The benefit to China in introducing these initiatives will be significant and far-reaching. It is important to realize that these initiatives need to filter down through all elements of the society in China. For instance, cutting edge technologies and intellectual properties; the development of e-commerce based economy; an education system that encourages innovation and creativity; increased foreign investment; higher living standards; more efficient use of natural resources.
It is important for us to realize these reforms are both essential and necessary. These will help China to fulfill its vast and unrealized potential on the world stage. It will also contribute more to a globalized world of the new century.
As for the future our task is not to foresee but to enable.

Today I want to tell you something about the way of life. There are two questions which may be familiar to you. That is “Where do we come from?” and “Where do we go?”
Perhaps no one can tell the answers exactly. Neither can I. But today, I just want to say something that everyone may know but most of us may ignore in our lives.
First, I want to show you a poem. It’s a short poem with an unknown author.
Life is but a stopping place,
A pause in what's to be,
A resting place along the road,
to sweet eternity.
We all have different journeys,
Different paths along the way,
We all were meant to learn some things,
but never meant to stay...
Our destination is a place,
Far greater than we know.
For some the journey's quicker,
For some the journey's slow.
And when the journey finally ends,
We'll claim a great reward,
And find an everlasting peace,
Together with the lord
It is about life. The way of life is just like a journey, just as it says. We have different lives and we chase different things. However, we never know what life will be before. We won’t see the scene until we reach it.
Sometimes we lose the way. It happens because you forget what your heart wants. We call this “at a loss”. To overcome this, we should know firmly where we are heading, which will help us find the way and the place we want.
And you may face the darkness. You will scare and want to go back home. But life gives you no opportunity to go back. So don’t be afraid, for night can also be so wonderful.
Sometimes we feel alone. You must make sure that life is your own way to go. You can’t depend on others most of the time. You must finish the journey with your own strength, for you choose your way by yourself.
But don’t worry. There is some star that will show you the way. During your life, you will meet your relatives, your friends, and many other people who probably stay in your life for just a little time but teach you something you may benefit during your whole life.
Then we continue our journey. We go farther and farther, and we find that the destination seems to be just before us. It’s an illusion! Many people think that they have reached the destinations so that they stop their steps. But in fact, they still have a long way to go.
Finally, we will reach where the sun rises. It is the end of our journey and it may be the beginning. We will claim a great reward and we will feel deeply what travelling meant to us. It seems like that everyone’s destinations are similar while they are totally different according to different people’s heart.
