西部地區開發英語短文

　　2000 年 1 月 19 日至 22 日，國務院西部地區開發會議召開。請根據下列提示，用英語寫一篇短文，說明西部地區開發的'重要意義。

　　改革開放以來，東部地區發展迅速。中國幅員遼闊，有 56 個民族，要實現中國的現代化，就必須加快西部地區的發展。西部地區資源豐富，但降雨少。在開發西部地區的同時，必須保持生態平衡。應該依靠科技教育，促進西部經濟的健康發展。

　　The Chinese Government has decided to quicken the development of the western region. In recent years， the eastern region of China has been developing rapidly since its reform and opening up to the outside world. But the western region remains undeveloped. China is a large country with 56 nationalities. We must quicken the progress of China as a whole to realize the modernizations. Although the western region is rich in resourses， yet it is short of water. With its development we must keep the balance of nature. Only by relying on science and technology， can we develop the western part of our country soundly.
