They dropped like flakes1, they dropped like stars,
Like petals2 from a rose,
When suddenly across the June
A wind with fingers goes.
They perished in the seamless grass, --
No eye could find the place;
But God on his repealless list
Can summon every face.
他們雪片般落下，他們流星般落下，
象一朵玫瑰花的`花瓣紛紛落下，
當風的手指忽然間
穿劃過六月初夏。
在眼睛不能發現的地方，--
他們凋零于不透縫隙的草叢；
但上帝攤開他無赦的名單
依然能傳喚每一副面孔。
