　　母親與教師

　　I teach middle-school choir and occasionally have my own children in class. One day my son asked if he could have a pencil. As a teacher,I normally do not lend items to unprepared students;but as a mother，I help my children whenever I can. I asked my son whether he was speaking to his teacher or his mother. He replied，“It degends on who has the pencil."

　　我教初中的唱詩班，偶爾會(huì)教到自己的孩子。一天，我兒子問我是否能借給他一支鉛筆。作為一位老師，我一般不借東西給那些不做課堂準(zhǔn)備的學(xué)生。但作為一位母親，我應(yīng)隨時(shí)幫助我的孩子。于是，我問兒子他是在跟老師說話，還是在跟母親說話。而他卻說:“那要看誰有鉛筆了。”

　　My friend Gilbert and some other truck drivers were to deliver loads of gravel out in the country. The directions they were given said to go down a certain road and, when they came to a cow tied to a fence post, to turn right.

　　我朋友吉爾波特和一些卡車司機(jī)到農(nóng)村去送沙石。他們得到的地址只說沿著某條路一直走，當(dāng)看到一頭牛拴在蒸笆柱上時(shí)，就向右轉(zhuǎn)。

　　While Gilbert was driving along slowly，he came upon a farmer leading a cow down the road. Assuming this was his landmark, he stopped and asked the man where his cow had been tied. 　　Not long after my sisters wedding，one of my fathers colleagues and his wife dropped in to see Mom and Dad.The guests had not been invited to the wedding, so when the woman said，”Im sorry I didnt get over to the church the other day，”Mom assumed she meant the churchs Good Cheer Club Tea and Bazaar.

　　"Irn glad you didnt.”Mom replied.”You never saw such a mob scene!""I thought Id like to see how everyone was dressed，"the guest said."What did you wear?"

　　我媽媽回答說:“你沒有來太好了，免得你看那片亂哄哄的景色.”客人說:“我原打算看看大家穿得如何，你那天穿的是什么?’，

　　"Just my old navy print and my oxfords,“said Mom，"and a good thing，too，as we cleared almost a thousand dollars. "

　　媽媽說:“就是那套老式的海軍呢和我的牛津服唄。值得一提的是，我們掙了一千多塊錢。”

　　"Did you take a collection?"the woman gasped.

　　“你們收了贈(zèng)款了嗎?”那位女士驚奇池問。

　　"Oh, no，“said Mom，"you know how it is，a lot of people come just to look and you dont make a thing out of them，so we decided to charge admission at the door.”

　　“噢，沒有，”媽媽說:“你知道怎么著，許多人只是來看熱鬧，你從他們身上是分文也得不到的，所以我們決定收門票

　　At this point Dad realized signals were crossed，and he suggested to Mom that she explain that my sisters wedding had been neither a mob scene nor a profit-making venture.

　　說到這兒，爸爸覺得意思搞誤會(huì)了。他建議媽媽解釋一下，我妹妹的婚禮既不是哄亂，也沒收取任何錢財(cái)。
