Some people think that printed books are no longer necessary in this digital era as all writings can be stored electronically. Others think that printed books still play important roles. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
Maintaining public libraries is a waste of money since computer technology can replace libraries’ function. To which extent do you agree or disagree?
Reading has a key role to play in people’s relaxation. Sure enough,it is not rare to see that the enormous popularity of electric equipments, such as iphone and ipad, keeps on soaring. Many people prefer to read e-books rather than the traditional paper books. Hence, people differ greatly in their views as to whether or not the printed books will be still of great necessity. As I see it, paper books could never be substituted because of their unique merits.
Primarily, although it is easy to acquire and utilize e-books, it is far from easy, for millions of people, to change their deeply-rooted habits of reading paper books. More precisely, numerous people insist on browsing paper books in traditional way because they can take notes in the blank of a page. A hard truth can justify my stand. Traditional books were often predicted to be replaced by new technology such as the Internet or smart phones in the past several decades, however, this prediction has never been realized until now. Similarly, traditional books will not withdraw from the stage of history due to e-reading.
What I would like to add is that a newly published book or magazine could best stimulate one’s reading impulse for the simple reason that a great many readers enjoy the fragrance of paper book and can feel the sense of ownership when holding a book. Unlike using e-books, which is just a sort of fast-food reading, traditional reading enables people to have an in-depth thinking and thus enhance their literacy.
Indeed, there must be some reasons to account for the popularization of e-reading. Seen from the positive aspects, e-books not only provide words, illustrations and pictures that traditional books have, but also add sounds, moving images and cartoons that printed books cannot offer. Another merit of e-books is that they can be eco-friendly because less paper will be needed. Last, electronic libraries cannot only save more space but also store more information.
To sum up, it is my view that under no circumstances can we ignore the immense value of print books and magazines. Printed books and e-reading are not mutually exclusive, for they enjoy respective merits. Therefore, both of them will co-exist, e-books can be a beneficial alternative to traditional books.
1. People differ greatly in their views as to whether or not ……
2. under no circumstances can we ignore the immense value of ……
3. It is far from easy, for millions of people, to change their deeply-rooted habits of reading paper books.
4. Traditional books will not withdraw from the stage of history due to e-reading.
5. Printed books and e-readings are not mutually exclusive, for they enjoy respective merits.
International travel often lead people have some prejudices rather than broad minds. What are the main reasons of this phenomenon? What do you think people can get better understanding of the countries they visit?
Such is human nature to explore those exotic countries and feel the sense of refreshment. Many people desire to expand their minds and enrich their experience of the world during the process of visiting their dream tourism destination. However, some problems inevitably ensue. Instead of feeling the pleasure of travel, what some sightseers feel are only culture prejudice, conflicts and misunderstandings.
Such is human nature to ……
To see the outside world is what every individual aspires after.
However, some problems inevitably ensue.
First, historical differences and diverse customs, to some extent, contribute to the bias, misunderstandings and even hostility. A case in point is that eating dog meat is permissible and understandable in some minority areas in China. More precisely, Taiwan people might be quite amazed when hearing or seeing dog meat is edible, for it is illicit and forbidden to persecute dogs in Taiwan. It is conceivable that Taiwan tourists might be quite shocked and disappointed when visiting some Korean minority areas in Mainland China. People there always take dog meat as delicious foods.
解析:contribute to the bias, misunderstandings and even hostility 導致了偏見,誤解和敵意。
解析:it is illicit and forbidden to persecute dogs in Taiwan.
解析:visiting some Korean minority areas in Mainland China 參觀中國大陸的一些朝鮮族地區
Further, some sightseers’ deeply rooted concept, and diverse life experience account for the appearance of culture prejudice. To illustrate , a kind of benediction like may you child become a dragon might be acceptable in Chinese culture. However, westerners might consider this kind of malediction as a curse for their children, for dragon equals to monster in western culture.
解析:…… account for the appearance of culture prejudice. ……
Westerners might consider this kind of malediction as a curse for their children
Several methods should be adopted to help tourists minimize the potential culture bias or emotional misunderstanding. Primarily, before paying a visit to one tourism destination, it is feasible to specialize in the customs, histories and local people’s lifestyle. For example, if a western visitor aims to do some sightseeing in the Chinese minority areas like Tibet, it is wise to get to know some taboo, learn some simple minority language and the minority tradition. Also, efforts should be made by those tourist guides or local mass media to disseminate local cultures and popularize some relevant travel taboo. In this sense, people will acquire the first-hand knowledge and thus have a deeper insight into a new country.
Several methods should be adopted to help sb to do sth
解析:pay a visit to sp = visit sp = explore sb = do some sightseeing in sp v參觀某地
拓展:it is feasible to do sth = it is viable to do sth 做……
解析:also, efforts should be made by ……
解析:disseminate local cultures and popularize some relevant travel taboo 傳播當地文化,普及相關的旅行禁忌
Overall,it is no easy task to iron out possible bias and conflicts before visiting some hot scenic spots. However, memorable travel experience favors the prepared minds.
It is no east task to iron out the possible bias and conflicts.
解析:iron out v 消除……
解析:Memorable travel experience favors the prepared minds.

In the contemporary society, most countries tend to allocate parts of budget for the renovation of old buildings, in particular, these with historic meanings and regarded as the landmark of a region, like Forbidden City in Beijing, because the value of culture behind is priceless, and the technique used represents our ancestors talents and the construction level at that time and can never be duplicated, by which the archaeology would be promoted significantly.
Coming along with the culture and historic values, the existence of old building strengthens people s sense of identity. Unlike the high-rises and skyscrapers, which almost look the same all around the world, those architectural heritages withstood the test of time and display the unique architectural design of a region or period. What s more, they even contribute to the boom of tourism. Every year, there are thousands of tourists both from home and abroad visiting them and appreciating their irresistible glamour. This case is often seen in the Westminster Abbey in London and Colosseum in Rome. There is no doubt that the thriving tourism earns huge profits for local government and residents.
Nonetheless, it must be admitted that governments funding on the furnishing new residences and road development does generate several benefits. For one thing, inhabitants have chances to live in houses with a comfortable environment and reasonable layout. For another thing, more highways can be built to connect surrounding cities and suitable road planning can be implemented to satisfy the demands of public transportation. In spite of theses, historical buildings deserve public funding for its protection; otherwise, parts of human civilization would vanish in the years to come.
In conclusion, I firmly claim that it is the obligation of government to focus on the restoration of old building as they are symbols of traditional culture and reflect the history of a country.

Some people argue that it is pointless to spend money on the protection of wild animals because we humans have no need for them. I completely disagree with this point of view.
In my opinion, it is absurd to argue that wild animals have no place in the 21st century. I do not believe that planet Earth exists only for the benefit of humans, and there is nothing special about this particular century that means that we suddenly have the right to allow or encourage the extinction of any species. Furthermore, there is no compelling reason why we should let animals die out. We do not need to exploit or destroy every last square metre of land in order to feed or accommodate the world’s population. There is plenty of room for us to exist side by side with wild animals, and this should be our aim.
I also disagree with the idea that protecting animals is a waste of resources. It is usually the protection of natural habitats that ensures the survival of wild animals, and most scientists agree that these habitats are also crucial for human survival. For example, rainforests produce oxygen, absorb carbon dioxide and stabilise the Earth’s climate. If we destroyed these areas, the costs of managing the resulting changes to our planet would far outweigh the costs of conservation. By protecting wild animals and their habitats, we maintain the natural balance of all life on Earth.
In conclusion, we have no right to decide whether or not wild animals should exist, and I believe that we should do everything we can to protect them.

題目:Nowadays many students have the opportunity to study for part or all of their courses in foreign countries. While studying abroad brings many benefits to individual students, it also has a number of disadvantages. Do you agree or disagree?
In recent years there has been a vast increase in the number of students choosing to study abroad. This is partly because people are more affluent and party due to the variety of grants and scholarships which are available for overseas students nowadays. Although foreign study is not something which every student would choose, it is an attractive option for many people.
Studying overseas has a number of advantages. Firstly, it may give students access to knowledge and facilities such as laboratories and libraries which are not available in their home country. Furthermore, by looking abroad students may find a wider range of courses than those offered in their country’s universities, and therefore one which fits more closely to their particular requirements.
On the other hand, studying abroad has a number of drawbacks. These may be divided into personal and professional. Firstly, students have to leave their family and friends for a long period. Furthermore, studying abroad is almost always more expensive than studying at one’s local university. Finally, students often have to study in a foreign language, which may limit their performance and mean they do not attain their true level.
In my opinion, however, the disadvantages of studying abroad are usually temporary in nature. Students who study abroad generally become proficient in the language quite soon and they are only away from their family and friends for a year or two. Furthermore, many of the benefits last students all their lives and make them highly desirable to prospective employers.

Some people think that university should not provide theoretical knowledge, but to give practical training that is beneficial to society.
Do you agree or disagree?
The current hot issues concerning higher education include the one of whether university should provide theoretical knowledge or practical training. In my opinion, this issue is closely related to the different aims of different universities and the needs of the economic development of the respective country.
As we know, university education gives a student a better appreciation of such fields as art, literature, history, science, and human relations. Therefore, it is necessary for the university to provide theoretical knowledge for those students who intend to receive liberal education.
Most universities also have professional colleges that prepare students for careers, such as teachers colleges, agricultural or dental colleges. These colleges, apart from offering some liberal arts courses, usually allocate a certain period of time for professional training. For example, a student at teachers college usually takes a field training at a high school as a student teacher for two or three months.
Another important factor on this issue is the needs of the economic development of a respective county. For instance, in China, a great number of advanced professional personnel are needed to keep the pace with the rapid economic development. Therefore, cooperative education that combines classroom studies with practical work experience is more appropriate an education China needs at the present time.
In a word, how much emphasis that should be laid on theoretical knowledge or practical training is determined by the needs of the economy of a respective country and the needs of all-round personnel for a democratic society.

What are the causes for losing varieties in languages and cultures?
Every human society has a culture that includes arts, customs, language, etc. Every culture changes and the main causes for losing varieties in language and culture, in my opinion, are: contact with other cultures, and development of science and technology.
When two cultures have continuous contact with each other, the two cultures may blend or adopt their cultural traits, such as language, clothing, etc. thus losing their individual cultural varieties. When people of one culture who move to a country where another culture dominates may give up their old ways and become part of the dominant culture. For example, groups of people from many countries have settled in the United States. Most of these people gradually abandoned the way of life of their homeland, and adopted an American way of life. They learned the language, adopted the customs, and followed the traditions.
The development of science and technology, on the other hand, may attribute to changes in a culture. The invention of steam engine, for example, produced great changes in the way people lived. The invention of the computer in the mid 20th century has also had enormous impact. It has brought far-reaching changes in communication, education, entertainment, and numerous other areas of modern life.
In conclusion, to lose varieties in language and culture is to lose richness in them. Therefore, to my mind, multiculturalism should prevail in the contemporary world, so that ethnic groups can bring variety and richness to a society by introducing their own ideas and customs.

People have different views about how much choice students should have with regard to what they can study at university. While some argue that it would be better for students to be forced into certain key subject areas, I believe that everyone should be able to study the course of their choice.
There are various reasons why people believe that universities should only offer subjects that will be useful in the future. They may assert that university courses like medicine, engineering and information technology are more likely to be beneficial than certain art degrees. From a personal perspective, it can be argued that these courses provide more job opportunities, career progression, better salaries, and therefore an improved quality of life for students who take them. On the societal level, by forcing people to choose particular university subjects, governments can ensure that any knowledge and skill gaps in the economy are covered. Finally, a focus on technology in higher education could lead to new inventions, economic growth, and greater future prosperity.
In spite of these arguments, I believe that university students should be free to choose their preferred areas of study. In my opinion, society will benefit more if our students are passionate about what they are learning. Besides, nobody can really predict which areas of knowledge will be most useful to society in the future, and it may be that employers begin to value creative thinking skills above practical or technical skills. If this were the case, perhaps we would need more students of art, history and philosophy than of science or technology.
In conclusion, although it might seem sensible for universities to focus only on the most useful subjects, I personally prefer the current system in which people have the right to study whatever they like.

The Hawaiian island chain, in the centre of the Pacific Ocean, is approximately 2,700 km in length. It is formed of volcanoes and the active ones are at the south-east tip of the archipelago, where Hawaii itself is located.
It is believed that the chain began to form nearly 80 million years ago. Each island started to evolve after an eruption on the sea floor. First, a `hot spot existed on the ocean bed, which let out a plume of material called magma. This magma may originate as deep as 2,883km below the ocean bed. Next, further eruptions took place, which built up the volcano. Eventually, it emerged above the surface of the ocean.
Since that time, the spume of magma has remained static as the Pacific tectonic plate moves in a north-west direction across it at a speed of 7-9cm per year. As it moves, a volcano forms as it passes over the hotspot and then become inactive when it has passed it.

When designing a building, the most important factor is inside use of the building rather than its outside appearance. Do you agree or disagree?
Which is more important, function or appearance? This has always been a hot topic for so many years.
As people are becoming more and more practical, they pay great emphasis on functions of things. But when people are satisfied with material life, they have spiritual requirement. And aesthetics is one of their pursuits.
The basic requirement of a building is its inside use. No one buys a house that he cannot live in only to appreciate its appearance.
As I have said, modern people are practical, so we never do things that cannot benefit us. But with the new techniques and advanced tools, up until now, human beings have no problem to construct a building to satisfy our practical use, thus in this sense, on the basis of usefulness, we have a higher requirement of beautifulness.
That’s why our world has become more and more beautiful.
But it also depends on different cases. Buildings used for exhibition should not be the same with those used for residence. Great buildings for exhibitions or used as museums are art works themselves and worthy of our appreciating.
The most famous is Sydney Theatre. Many people visit it for its great beauty rather than enjoying concerts.
If the building is only for us to live in, then there is no necessity to invite a famous architect do design such an elegant house. Such buildings are also out of our purchasing power.
To sum up, the inside use and the appearance are both very important. But it doesn’t mean that we should always give the same weight to the two. It should depend on concrete occasions.

People have differing views with regard to the question of how to make our roads safer. In my view, both punishments and a range of other measures can be used together to promote better driving habits.
On the one hand, strict punishments can certainly help to encourage people to drive more safely. Penalties for dangerous drivers can act as a deterrent, meaning that people avoid repeating the same offence. There are various types of driving penalty, such as small fines, licence suspension, driver awareness courses, and even prison sentences. The aim of these punishments is to show dangerous drivers that their actions have negative consequences. As a result, we would hope that drivers become more disciplined and alert, and that they follow the rules more carefully.
On the other hand, I believe that safe driving can be promoted in several different ways that do
not punish drivers. Firstly, it is vitally important to educate people properly before they start to drive, and this could be done in schools or even as part of an extended or more difficult driving test. Secondly, more attention could be paid to safe road design. For example, signs can be used to warn people, speed bumps and road bends can be added to calm traffic, and speed cameras can help to deter people from driving too quickly. Finally, governments or local councils could reduce road accidents by investing in better public transport, which would mean that fewer people would need to travel by car.
In conclusion, while punishments can help to prevent bad driving, I believe that other road safety measures should also be introduced.

Businesses have always sought to make a profit, but it is becoming increasingly common to hear people talk about the social obligations that companies have. I completely agree with the idea that businesses should do more for society than simply make money.
On the one hand, I accept that businesses must make money in order to survive in a competitive world. It seems logical that the priority of any company should be to cover its running costs, such as employees’ wages and payments for buildings and utilities. On top of these costs, companies also need to invest in improvements and innovations if they wish to remain successful. If a company is unable to pay its bills or meet the changing needs of customers, any concerns about social responsibilities become irrelevant. In other words, a company can only make a positive contribution to society if it is in good financial health.
On the other hand, companies should not be run with the sole aim of maximising profit; they have a wider role to play in society. One social obligation that owners and managers have is to treat their employees well, rather than exploiting them. For example, they could pay a “living wage” to ensure that workers have a good quality of life. I also like the idea that businesses could use a proportion of their profits to support local charities, environmental projects or education initiatives. Finally, instead of trying to minimise their tax payments by using accounting loopholes, I believe that company bosses should be happy to contribute to society through the tax system.
In conclusion, I believe that companies should place as much importance on their social responsibilities as they do on their financial objectives.

The graph shows percentages of cinema attendance at least once a year in Australia between 1990 to 2010 with projections for the future. The graph is described by 4 groups of different ages which are 14 to 24, 25 to 34, 35 to 49 and over 50 year olds.
The youngest age group people have been going to cinema more than any other age groups and the percentage has been keeping very high at approximately90% since 1990. It is predicted to keep the high and to increase more from 2006.
The middle age groups people have enjoyed going cinema between 60% to 80%. The percentage of age 25 to 34 group has been higher than the one of age 35 to 49 group but from 2006 the percentage of 25 to 34 year olds people will decrease while the one of 35 to 49 year olds people will increase and get higher than the other one.
The oldest people seem to go cinema less than the other groups but the percentageof the attendance has slightly going up by 15% from 40% to 55% between 1990 to 2004 and it will keep increasing to 60% by 2010.

International tourism does trigger tensions in a diverse array of fields. To begin with, the increase in the use of such traffic means as airplanes, trains, buses, and the like weakens the fragile balance (equilibrium) in an ecosystem. It also ruins the biodiversity in the ecosystem. Next, tensions in economic development are also conspicuous. The primitive economic pattern is inevitably vulnerable to the influences from the tourists who come from different economic systems. Jiuzhaigou, Sichuan, China is a typical case in point, where the local economic pattern has been shifting from the agriculture to tourism.
Despite the tensions, international tourism contributes to the understanding between people from different cultures, religions, races, and political ideas. This is because the tourism per se is more than appreciating the beautiful, brilliant natural landscapes, cultural traditions, or interesting customs. It is a kind of contacts. To contact is to communicate. Communication naturally promotes understandings. For instance, the Americans who traveled to Tibet tend to understand why Chinese governments insist that Tibet be a part of the Chinese territory and it should never be separated from the Chinese sovereignty. In fact, religious understanding serves as another telling example. The Christians who visit an Islamic attraction are more easily to accept that different religious should be able to coexist.
To sum up, the international tourism helps people understand each other although it has caused some tensions.

More and more people using mobile phone and computer to instead ofletters. Will letter disappear completely? Agree or disagree? Howimportant of letter writing you think are?Mobile phone and computer have filled the shoes of letters as primarymeans of communication in our life. Technology enables us to get in touchwith each other with unparalleled speed and convenience. But as the oldestand one of the most cherished ways of communication, letter will maintainits presence peoples life instead of disappearing completely.Letters have a sense of personal touch, which is much less apparent incell phone and computer communication. The reason is very simple. Letterwriting takes considerably longer time than developing an email on acomputer. After finishing a letter, people need to drop it in a mailbox orgo to a post office to mail it. In modern time, the idea of spending moretime on something indicates the importance attached to it. The recipientof a letter, therefore, appreciates it more than answering a call orgetting an email from a friend. We use letters to send printed or signed documents that could not bedelivered by phone talk or computer. Under many business circumstances, contracts or business corespondents could be enclosed in a mail to theother party. In addition, letters correspondences are safer thancommunicating via phone or computer, both of which could be subjected toinformation interception by people with ill intention.Admittedly, the wide use of modern technology in communication hasinfluenced the more traditional way of social contact and informationexchange such as letter writing. Still due the uniqueness of letter, itwill continue to exist in our life.In conclusion, mobile phone and computer have given people superior meansof communication, but letter will not disappear completely because it ismore personal, safer, and useful than other ways of communication.-------Some people think that the earlier technology has changed our life morethan the recent technology. Do you agree or disagree?Technology, old or new, has indeed made our life different. We no longeramaze at telephones, computers, Internet, or cars, all of which are nowjust indispensable to our life. But technologies vary in nature andapplication, and we should not weight their importance merely in terms ofthe time of their development.First of all, earlier technology and later technology, in manycircumstances, are complimentary to each other, and serve different peoplefor various purposes. For example, telephone made its first two centuries ago. Since then, peoples distance and spacehas been shortened by this amazing invention. Modern technology has madenumerous breakthroughs in the field of telecommunication, particularlywith the emergence of computer and information technology. A number of thenew technologies, in some ways, have taken some of the turf of telephone. The younger generation spends a major part of time talking andcommunicating via Internet-based technology such as OICQ. Overlapping asthe old and new technology in communication, each wouldnt be completewithout the other. As a result, it would not make much sense to judge thesignificance of technologies only by time.Second, it would not be fair and reasonable to compare technologies indifferent fields. Say, does it make any sense to compare engine withcomputer chip? The former is used in trains, airplanes, and cars, whilethe later drives computer to perform thousands of tasks. Just pretty muchlike we could not compare an apple with an orange, we could not logicallymake comparison between technologies in different fields. However, many of the modern technologies do attribute their development toearlier ones. Without the development of power plant, we probably stilluse candles for light instead of lamp or bulb, not to mention otherelectricity-powered home appliances. In conclusion, old technology and new technology are both important to ourlife. Even some new technologies are based on older ones, they aredeveloped and used in different areas. It is hard or even unreasonable tocompare their significance by the time of their appearance.。

You should spend about 20 minutes on this task. Write a report for a university
lecturer describing the information shown below. You should write at least 150 words.
In this analysis we will examine three pie charts. The first one is headed ‘World Spending.’ The second is ‘World Population’ and the third is ‘Consumption of Resources.’
In the first chart we can see that people spend most of their income (24%) on food. In some countries this percentage would obviously be much higher. Transport and then housing are the next major expenses at 18% and 12% respectively. Only 6% of income is spent on clothing.
In the second chart entitled ‘World Population’, it is not surprising to find that 57% of people live in Asia. In fact China and India are two of the most populated countries in the world and they are both situated on this continent. Europe and the Americans account for nearly 30% of the total, whilst 10% of people live in Africa.
Finally, the third chart reveals that the USA and Europe consume a huge 60% of the world’s resource.
To sum up, the major expenditure is on food, the population figures are the highest for Asia and the major consumers are the USA and Europe.
The two graphs show that oil was the major energy source in the USA in both 1980 and 1990.
It is manifest from the pie charts that coal, natural gas and hydroelectric power remained in much the same proportions. On the other hand, there was a dramatic rise in nuclear power, which doubled its percentage over the ten years.
Oil supplied the largest percentage of energy, although the percentage decreased from 42% in 1980 to 33% in 1990. Coal in 1990 was the second largest source of energy, increasing its proportion to 27% from 22% in the previous decade. Natural gas, the second largest source in 1980 at 26%, decreased its share very slightly to provide 25% of America’s energy ten years later. There was no change in the percentage supplied by hydroelectric power which remained at 5% of the total energy used. Nuclear power the greatest change: in 1990 it was 10%, twice that of the 1980s.

There is an upsurge in practical knowledge in these years and people have seen many education courses being totally theory-based. Going to college or learning practical skills, which is better, has been a discussion among public. In my view, the choice really depends on different individuals’ needs and will.
When a student is leaning academic knowledge in university, other skills are also developed. University education will focus on some exceptional abilities like organization, interpretation, evaluation and communication, which can help students to be a well-rounded person. A qualified student should also posses some important skills, such as problems solving and critical thinking.
Learning fixing or construction or something practical like these also sounds reasonable. It is well-recognized that every student has to work after they graduate. They should be equipped with competence which enhances the transition from school to work. Besides, an excellent student learner is admittedly important to society, but more important is his or her productivity. However, college education focuses more on theoretical knowledge instead of practical abilities, which distances learners from the real life.
My view is that this choice is according to different people’s needs and will. For instance, if a doctor spends 3 years in practicing medicine, his experience will be more than his peers who stay in college after they graduate. Also, in our society, a doctor’s reputation is based on his skills and doctors, practical skills are more important. However, it may be better to pursue further education for a philosopher until he gets a doctor degree. Meanwhile, different people have different wills to do different things, which means they can do the personal choice for themselves.
Overall, I think the choice is quite personal and people will make the best decision based on their conditions.

Nowadays, there are all kinds of channels to get news, such as radio, television, newspaper and internet. In my opinion, internet is the best among these.
Since its invention, the Internet has been keeping booming as a prospective industry. Not only because it is a combination of texts, audios and videos, but also due to its convinience. It has threatened the domination of spreading news of the traditional media, and, I would say, is about to take control.
We can find what we want on internet such as latest news, books, songs, movies and so on. With radio, we can merely hear. Compared with newspaper, radio and television can provide the lastest information. For instance, it was immediately availalbe of the breaking news of the Americans’ attacking on Iraq, as well as that the Twin Towers of New York were destroyed on September 11, 2001. However, we just cannot carry television.
Internet is a convinient way of getting information, as long as your mobile phone is connected or you possess a laptop. When I am on a vehicle, I usually have my cellphone connected to internet, then browse what happend in the past few hours, or begin a conversation with my friends. Reading newspaper is also a good way to kill time, but for me, a youngster, it is not so modern as “surfing online while being transported”.
The traditional media will never disappear, though internet has taken a big advantage in the competition. And definitely, there is still a long way for internet to go. Anyway, internet benefits me the most, and I highly appreciate it.

on the other hand
I can‘t decide which country to study in. Britain has many universities and a long history, so it would be interesting to study there. On the other hand, Australia has a nicer climate. Its a difficult decision.
then again
We might get married this year. Then again, we might delay it for a year or two – we havent decided yet. having said that Learning English is not easy; it takes hard work and practice. Having said that, many people do become quite fluent after a few years of study.
at the same time
I think good teachers have to be quite strict in order to keep the class under control. At the same time, teachers should be warm and friendly so the students can relate to them as human beings.
all the same
Studying overseas can be wonderful experience for students. All the same, they have to work very hard to make up for their language deficiencies.

It is inevitable that traditional cultures will be lost as technology develops. Technology and traditional cultures are incompatible. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this view?
Some people believe that technological developments lead to the loss of traditional cultures. I partly agree with this assertion; while it may be true in the case of some societies, others seem to be unaffected by technology and the modern world.
On the one hand, the advances in technology that have driven industrialisation in developed countries have certainly contributed to the disappearance of traditional ways of life. For example, in pre-industrial Britain, generations of families grew up in the same small village communities. These communities had a strong sense of identity, due to their shared customs and beliefs. However, developments in transport, communications and manufacturing led to the dispersal of families and village communities as people moved to the cities in search of work. Nowadays most British villages are inhabited by commuters, many of whom do not know their closest neighbours.
On the other hand, in some parts of the world traditional cultures still thrive. There are tribes in the Amazon Rainforest, for example, that have been completely untouched by the technological developments of the developed world. These tribal communities continue to hunt and gather food from the forest, and traditional skills are passed on to children by parents and elders. Other traditional cultures, such as farming communities in parts of Africa, are embracing communications technologies. Mobile phones give farmers access to information, from weather predictions to market prices, which helps them to prosper and therefore supports their culture.
In conclusion, many traditional ways of life have been lost as a result of advances in technology, but other traditional communities have survived and even flourished.
