地道的英語口語表達用語
不少人學習英語口語都有這樣的煩惱——如何說一口有地道的英語口語。以下是小編給大家整理的地道的英語口語表達用語,歡迎閱讀!
地道的英語口語表達用語
1. (To) Hit the books
從字面意思看,它表示撞擊正在閱讀的書籍,然而, 這個俚語在學生群體中十分常見,特別是美國那些功課繁重的大學生。它僅僅表達“學習”的意思,而且是一種告訴你的伙伴自己要學習的方式,可用在期末考試、期中考試甚至是一場英語測試時。
“Sorry but I can’t watch the game with you tonight, I have to hit the books. I have a huge exam next week!”
“對不起,我今晚無法和你一起觀看比賽,下周有個重要的考試,我必須要學習了!”
2. (To) Hit the sack
和第一個俚語一樣,這個俚語字面意思是敲擊麻布袋,但事實上,它的意思是上床休息,你可以用這個詞向你的朋友或家人表示你真的很累,想睡覺了。除此之外,你還可以用hit the hay表達這層意思。
“It’s time for me to hit the sack, I’m so tired.”
“是時候上床睡覺了,我太累了。”
3. (To) Twist someone’s arm
如果你逐字翻譯,那么它字面意思表示抓住某人的胳臂并把它扭過來,這會非常疼。如果你被扭住了胳臂,那表示某人剛剛成功地說服你去做一件本來不是很想做的事。如果你成功地扭轉其他人的胳臂,這表示你出色地說服了他們,最終他們同意按照你說的去做。
Tom: Jake you should really come to the party tonight!
Jake: You know I can’t, I have to hit the books (study).
Tom: C’mon, you have to come! It’s going to be so much fun and there are going to be lots of girls there. Please come?
Jake: Pretty girls? Oh all right, you’ve twisted my arm, I’ll come!
湯姆:杰克,你今晚真應該來參加聚會!
杰克:你知道我去不了,我必須要學習。
湯姆:來吧,你必須得來。聚會會很有意思的,而且會有很多女生在這兒。來嗎?
杰克:漂亮的女生?哦,那好吧,你說服了我。我會去的。
4. (To be) Up in the air
當我們說到某些在空中的事物,我們想到的是某些東西飄在空中或在天上飛,或許是一架飛機或一個氣球。但事實上,如果某人告訴你某些東西在空中,那么這表示事情不能確定;確定的計劃還沒制定。
“Jen have you set a date for the wedding yet?”
“珍,你決定結婚的日期了嗎?”
“Not exactly, things are still up in the air and we’re not sure if our families can make it on the day we wanted. Hopefully we’ll know soon and we’ll let you know as soon as possible.”
“還沒有,事情還是懸而未決,我們不確定家人是否能定在我們想要的那天。希望我們很快能知道,也盡快讓你們知道。”
5. (To) Stab someone in the back
如果我們按照字面意思翻譯這個俚語,可能會發現自己陷入了刑事糾紛中,用刀去刺某個人。然而, 這個俚語表示秘密地背叛并傷害了親近和相信我們的人,辜負了他們的信任。我們會把這么做的人稱為“背后刺客,陷害別人的人”。
“Did you hear that Sarah stabbed Kate in the back last week?”
“No! I thought they were best friends, what did she do?”
“She told their boss that Kate wasn’t interested in a promotion at work and Sarah got it instead.”
“Wow, that’s the ultimate betrayal! No wonder they’re not friends anymore.”
“你聽說上周莎拉背叛了凱特這件事了嗎?”
“沒有!我以為她們是最好的朋友,她做了什么?”
“她告訴老板凱特對升職不感興趣,莎拉頂替了她的位置。”
“哇,那是徹徹底底的背叛!怪不得她們絕交了。”
6. (To) Lose your touch
它字面意思表示再也不能用你的手指或手去觸摸或感受。但實際上,它表示你失去了曾經擁有的可以處理某些事情的能力或才能。
你平時很擅長某種才能,但卻漸漸地力不從心,處理不了,就可以用這個短語。
“I don’t understand why none of the girls here want to speak to me.”
“It looks like you’ve lost your touch with the ladies.”
“Oh no, they used to love me, what happened?”
“我不明白這里的女孩為什么不想和我說話。”
“似乎你在女士們面前的魅力消失了。”
“噢,不,她們過去都愛我,發生了什么事?”
7. (To) Sit tight
To sit tight is a strange English idiom and it literally means that you sit down squeezing your body in a tight way, which if you did it would be very uncomfortable, not to mention you’ll look really strange.這是個有點陌生的英文俚語,字面意思表示你做起來很拘謹,這會讓你感到不舒服,更不用說讓你看起來很怪了。但如果一個人告訴你這句俚語,他們是想讓你安靜地等待,在接到指示前不要采取行動。
“Mrs. Carter, do you have any idea when the exam results are going to come out?”
“Who knows Johnny, sometimes they come out quickly but it could take some time. You’re just going to have to sit tight and wait.”
“卡特夫人,你知道考試成績什么時候出來嗎?”
“誰知道呢,強尼,有時候出來得很快,但需要些時間。你就耐心等一等吧。”
8. (To) Pitch in
如果你試圖從字面意思上理解這個俚語,你會發現這根本講不通。象征性地來說,它表示對某事或某人有幫助,也有加入的意思。如果你的父親告訴家里人這周末他想要每個人都動起身來,幫助打掃后院,這表示他想要每個人都貢獻力量,清掃院子,讓事情完成得更快。
“What are you going to buy Sally for her birthday?”
“I don’t know I don’t have much money.”
“Maybe we can all pitch in and buy her something great.”
“薩莉的生日你準備給她買什么禮物?”
“我不知道我是否有足夠的錢。”
“或許我們可以湊些錢,給她買些很棒的東西。”
上面這段話表示每個薩莉的朋友都應該貢獻一點錢,這樣他們就能一起給薩莉買一件更大更好的禮物。
9. (To) Go cold turkey
“Shall I get your mom a glass of wine?”
“No, she’s stopped drinking?”
“Really, why?”
“I don’t know. A few months ago, she just announced one day she’s quitting drinking.”
“She just quit cold turkey?”
“Yes, just like that!”
“要我給你媽媽拿杯酒嗎?”
“不用了,她已經戒酒了。”
“真的嗎?為什么?”
“我不知道。幾個月前,她只是宣稱有一天她會戒酒的。”
“斷然戒掉了?”
“是的,差不多是這樣。”
10. (To) Face the music
從字面意思來看,這個俚語表示轉身面向音樂的方向,但如果你的朋友或父母告訴你face the music,它有一個更嚴肅的意思。它表示“面對現實”,或者處理現實的情況,接受所有或好或壞的結果(大部分都是壞的)。或許因為你不確定或害怕結果逃避了某些事情,可能你對老師說謊了,而她發現了真相,那么現在你必須面對現實,接受懲罰。
“I can’t understand why I failed math.”
“You know you didn’t study hard, so you’re going to have to face the music and take the class again next semester if you really want to graduate when you do.”
“我不明白為什么數學考試沒通過。”
“你知道你學習不努力,所以得面對現實,如果真的想畢業那就下個學期重修。”
附:看電影怎么學習英語口語?
1.Take it as a movie,just have fun(第一遍就愉快的看下來,不要滿腦子“學英語”搞的緊張兮兮)
2.Find a proper one(no more than 20% new words)(可選擇的電影很多,但生詞量最好控制在20%,推薦阿甘正傳,三觀正,貼現實,難度小,或者各種動畫片,以后隨著能力的提升可以挑戰更難的,不過生化危機一類的題材是不太接地氣兒滴)
3.From now on,take it as a video book(接下來就認真研究)
4.stop by each sentence,check the meaning(需要一個小本,左邊一頁記下你根本不會的生詞:右邊一頁記下你原本會的但是沒有沒有聽出來的句子或詞匯。接下來左邊的是需要下功夫背的,而右邊則是英語表達中我們以前沒有意識到的規律,比如各種連讀等等,以后你會發現右邊的越來越少,也代表著把規律掌握的越來越好)
5.stop by each sentence,repeat(跟讀,這個,要走心)
6.listen it as a whole(for finding unfamilar words)(這一步把4中我們依然沒有掌握的重新標記,重點學習)
7.listen it as a whole(for checking over all understanding)(這一次底氣足了很多,確保自己能聽明白每句話的意思)
8.stop by each sentence,repeat(for emotion and intonation)(抑揚頓挫,帶著感情,其實之前很多遍已經有了一個鋪墊,這一步就是營造所謂的英語氛圍)
