do pop stars deserve high rewards
it seems that pop star s today enjoy a privileged style of living . wher ever they go , thousand s of people turn out to greet them . t he crowds go wild t rying to catch a brief glimpse of their smiling , colour fully-dressed idols . sta rs a re s ur rounded by their managers , pr es s-agents , and often by their bodyguards . photographs of them appear regular ly in the pr es s and all their coming s and goings a re r epor ted , as star s ar e news . they must con st antly avoid meeting cr azy fans , par ticularly teenagers who idolise them . some people say that st ars are no longe r private individuals , but public proper ty . t he financial rewa rds they receive for this sacrifice is incalculable .
is it right that the st ars s hould be paid in this way ? it’s all very well for people engaged in many othe r professions to envy the s ucces ses and rewards of these stars . howeve r , those who make enviou s remark s s hould remembe r that the most famous star s r epresent only the tip of an iceberg . for every famou s sta r , the re ar e h undr eds of other s st ruggling to earn a living . a man who at tempts to become a star is taking enormous risks . he knows at the outset that only a handful of competitors ever get to the very top . he knows that year s of concent rated effor ts may be rewa rded with complete failure . but he knows that the rewa rds for successes are very high indeed , and if he achieves the goal , he cer tainly earns them .
