　　元宵節的來歷

　　漢明帝永平年間(公元58——75)，因明帝提倡佛法，適逢蔡愔從印度求得佛法歸來，稱印度摩喝陀國每逢正月十五，僧眾云集瞻仰佛舍利，是參佛的吉日良辰。漢明帝為了弘揚佛法，下令正月十五夜在宮中和寺院“燃燈表佛”。因此正月十五夜燃燈的習俗隨著佛教文化影響的擴大及道教文化的加入逐漸在中國擴展開來。而元宵節俗真正的動力是因為它處在新的時間點上，人們充分利用這一特殊的時間階段來表達自己的生活愿望。

　　元宵放燈的習俗，在唐代發展成為盛況空前的燈市，中唐以后，已發展成為全民性的狂歡節。唐玄宗(公元685——762)時的開元盛世，，長安的燈市規模很大，燃燈五萬盞，花燈花樣繁多，皇帝命人做巨型的燈樓，廣達20間，高150尺，金光璀璨，極為壯觀。

　　以后歷代的元宵燈會不斷發展，燈節的時間也越來越長。唐代的燈會是“上元前后各一日”，宋代又在十六之后加了兩日，明代則延長到由初八到十八整整十天。

　　到了清代，滿族入主中原，宮廷不再辦燈會，民間的燈會卻仍然壯觀。日期縮短為五天，一直延續到今天。

　　“猜燈謎”又叫“打燈謎”是元宵節后增的一項活動，出現在宋朝。南宋時，首都臨安每逢元宵節時制迷，猜謎的人眾多。開始時是好事者把謎語寫在紙條上，貼在五光十色的彩燈上供人猜。因為謎語能啟迪智慧又饒有興趣，所以流傳過程中深受社會各階層的歡迎。
