　　At the first day of New Year, I was so excited that I got up very early in the morning. But Mother was earlier than me, and she had gotten the breakfast ready. Dumplings, that's my favourite. After the wonderful breakfast, I left home with my parents to visit our relatives. On the way, I said Happy New Year to everyone that I met and they all said that back to me. Everyone is happy and friendly. In my relatives' house, they prepared many sweets and snacks for visitors. They are all very delicious. The more exciting thing was that I got some money from my relatives. I had a fine day in my relatives' family.

　　My first day of New Year was very happy. It was a good start, and I would try my best to make this happiness last for the whole year.

　　Nowadays, it is not rare that celebrities from all works of life are employed as guest professors in universities. And we can always see reports about this in newspapers, magazines and other news media.

　　Some people see it as a win-win situation. On the one hand, celebrities can share their successful stories with students, which can broaden students’ horizon and inspire them to work harder. On the other hand, being visiting professors of universities, the celebrities can make themselves known to more people. However, other people disapprove this practice. They argue that universities’ attention of inviting celebrities to be professors is to enhance the schools’ fame instead of improving the quality of education, and some celebrities are not qualified to be professors.

　　In my view, just as a coin has two sides, the inviting of celebrities as guest professors has both good and bad effects. Thus I think colleges should evaluate the possible results thoroughly, and their choices should be based on the improvement of teaching standards and students’ development.

　　We use both words and gestures to express our feelings, but the problem is that these words and gestures can be understood in different ways.

　　It is true that a smile means the same thing in any language. So does laughter or crying. There are also a number of striking similarities in the way different animals show the same feelings. Dogs, tigers and humans, for example, often show their teeth when they are angry. This is probably because they are born with those behavior patterns.

　　Fear is another emotion that is shown in much the same way all over the world. In Chinese and in English literature, a phrase like “he went pale and begin to tremble” suggests that the man is either very afraid or he has just got a very big shock. However, “he opened his eyes wide” is used to suggest anger in Chinese whereas in English it means surprise. In Chinese surprise can be described in a phrase like “they stretched out their tongues”! Sticking out your tongue in English is an insulting gesture or expresses strong dislike. Even in the same culture, people differ in ability to understand and express feelings. Experiments in America have shown that women are usually better than men at recognizing fear, anger, love and happiness on people’s faces. Other studies show that older people usually find it easier to recognize or understand body language than younger people do.

　　The Dragon Boat Festival， also called Double Fifth Festival， is celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth moon of the lunar calendar. It is one of the most important Chinese festivals，the other two being the Autumn Moon Festival and Chinese New Year.

　　The origin of this summer festival centers around a scholarly government official named Chu Yuan. He was a good and respected man，but because of the misdeeds of jealous rivals he eventually fell into disfavor in the emperor's court.

　　Unable to regain the respect of the emperor，in his sorrow Chu Yuan threw himself into the Mi Low river. Because of their admiration for Chu Yuan， the local people living adjacent to the Mi Lo River rushed into their boats to search for him while throwing rice into the waters to appease the river dragons.

　　Although they were unable to find Chu Yuan，their efforts are still commemorated today during the Dragon Boat Festival.

　　端午節，又稱為五五節，因為端午節是在農歷的五月五日，是三個重要的中國節慶之一，其他兩個分別是中秋節和農歷新年。

　　這個節日的由來是古代中國有一位博學多聞的官吏屈原，他是一位愛民而且又受到尊崇的官吏，但是由於一位充滿嫉妒的官吏陷害，從此在朝廷中被皇帝所冷落。由於無法獲得皇帝的重視，屈原在憂郁的情況下投汨羅江自盡。

　　我們現在看到的長城是明朝的時候重新修繕的。老龍頭就是它東端的'起點。肯定有人要問了：why is it called laolongtou (old dragons head)? 我們習慣上把萬里長城比喻成一條長龍，laolongtou is the eastern end of the ming dynasty great wall etending into the sea. 那入海處的這段長城就恰好是喝水的龍頭了。像這樣深入大海的長城這可是惟一的一處呢。

　　離老龍頭不遠，就是號稱“天下第一關”的山海關。the shanhaiguan pass was built in 1381.它和居庸關、嘉峪關并稱為“中國三大雄關”。

　　游客們到了山海關，有一件必做的事情，就是和“天下第一關”這塊牌匾合影。look at the plaque (匾額). do you find anything strange? 仔細看，原來，這塊匾額上沒有落款，也沒有印章!這和中國的書法傳統可不相符哦!

　　there is an interesting story about the plaque. the inscription on this plaque was written by iao ian. 肖顯是明代著名的書法家。he wrote all the characters well ecept the word "yi". 正在他發愁的時候，一個店小二用抹布擦桌子的時候給他帶來了靈感。a mark of water was left on the table, which was in eactly the same style as "yi". 于是肖顯趕緊把這個水印用到他的匾額上了。

　　提起長城，大家一定都會想起那個傳說中哭倒了整座長城的孟姜女。her story has moved many people. 在老龍頭就有一座孟姜女廟。廟里有一幅非常有意思的對聯：海水朝朝朝朝朝朝朝落，浮云長長長長長長長消。so many “朝” and “長”! 念起來要好費勁啊!

　　其實這副對聯的學問就在于多音字和斷句。這個“朝”啊就是一個多音字。既可以念“朝”又可以念“朝”。而那個“長”又是一個多音字。既可以念“長”又可以念“長”。

　　因此這幅對聯可以這樣念：hai shui chao, zhao zhao chao, zhao chao zhao luo. fu yun zhang, chang chang zhang, chang zhang chang iao. 還有其他的念法，你可以自己試試哦!
