Which plays the major role in childrens personality development, nature or nurture?
Over the past few decades there has been an ongoing nature-versus-nurture debate about the causes of children’s personality. To the best of my knowledge, there are many influences on the development of a child’s personality, but the main causes are his genetic makeup, environment, and behavioral genetics.
There is evidence that both genetics and environment affect children’s personality. Studies have shown that the tendency to acquire some personality characteristics – including activity levels, anxiety, aggression, and independence – can be inherited. Although one’s genetic makeup does not determine one’s behavior, it provides a child strong tendency to behave in a particular way.
Personality is also influenced by environment. Thus, a child with particular personality characteristics is more likely to show them if the home environment reinforces them. For example, harshly punishing a child who has a genetically based tendency for aggression contributes further to the child’s aggression.
Major advances have been made through behavioral genetics, the field concerned with the relative influence of genetic and environmental factors on individual behavior. For example, if we study the personalities of identical twins who have been separated since birth, we may find that the twins have the same genetic makeup but differ in the environments in which they are reared. Similarities and differences can help reveal the relative importance of genetic and environmental influences.
To sum up, the shaping of a child’s personality is attributed mainly to the role of specific social experiences and environmental events, his genetic makeup as well as the behavioral genetics. (250 words)

The bar chart compares the amount of time spent by people in the UK on three different types of phone call between 1995 and 2002.
It is clear that calls made via local, fixed lines were the most popular type, in terms of overall usage, throughout the period shown. The lowest figures on the chart are for mobile calls, but this category also saw the most dramatic increase in user minutes.
In 1995, people in the UK used fixed lines for a total of just over 70 billion minutes for local calls, and about half of that amount of time for national or international calls. By contrast, mobile phones were only used for around 4 billion minutes. Over the following four years, the figures for all three types of phone call increased steadily.
By 1999, the amount of time spent on local calls using landlines had reached a peak at 90 billion minutes. Subsequently, the figure for this category fell, but the rise in the other two types of phone call continued. In 2002, the number of minutes of national / international landline calls passed 60 billion, while the figure for mobiles rose to around 45 billion minutes.

For hundreds of years, people get used to reading the newspaper to know current affairs, but this traditional mode is being challenged by the emergence of various forms of other media.
Since the invention of TV, it has become a common way for people to get informed of the latest news and compared with reading articles, sounds and moving images on TV can better convey the information. In recent years, with the universal access to the Internet, more people turn to reading on the web. Online reading saves the time of printing and distribution and more importantly, most of information on the web is free. Another advantage of new media is their less impact on the environment. The paper-making industry associated with printing newspapers is a heavy polluter and large consumer of wood resources.
However, some people support newspapers and they may give their reasons as follow. The censorship system of publishing newspapers is more rigorous, which means the Information people gain from the printed media is more reliable than that from the Internet. It is true that in many cases, the news turns out to be false after it spreads widely on the web. In addition, some readers, especially elderly citizens, may get accustomed to reading newspapers as they are not familiar with the functions of electronic gadgets.
My view is that the role of the newspaper is diminishing in our daily lives and this trend will become faster in the future. However, “newspaper” will continue to exist, perhaps in another form, demonstrated by the fact that many newspapers are published on websites as online newspapers now.

I am writing to inform you that I wish to movesintosa new room next term. I would prefer a single room, as I find the present sharing arrangement inconvenient.

In addition, he sometimes borrows my things without asking me. In these circumstances. I find it difficult to concentrate on my studies, and I am falling behind in my assignments.
I am sure you will agree that the only solution is for me to molesintosa room of my own, swheresI will be free from such distractions. Therefore, I would be grateful if you could find a single room for me, preferably not in the same building but as near to the college campus as possible.

The main factors responsible for the decreased productivity of agricultural land in North America, Europe, and Oceania during the 1990s were summarized in a pie chart and a table.
The most serious problem was over-grazing. It has caused the world to lose 35% of agriculture land. This problem is followed closely by deforestation and over-cultivation.
The area that has lost most proportion of its agriculture land was Europe at 23% However, Oceania and North America was not as badly affected, losing 13% and 5% of its farmland respectively.
Surprisingly, the main problem faced by each area is different from one another. The problem with over-grazing is especially serious in Oceania, resulting in 11.3% of its land unsuitable for agriculture. On the other hand, deforestation that caused 9.8% of agriculture land unusable was the major problem faced by the European farmers. Although over-cultivation was the primary threat in North America, it was not a problem at all in Oceania.
In conclusion, over-grazing was the main cause of worldwide degradation in 1990s. Europe’s percentage of degradation was largest of all three regions and all three regions had different predominant causes.

The diagrams show West Part School at three different stages in its development: 1950, 1980 and 2010.
In 1950, the school was built close to a main road and next to a number of houses. A large area behind the school was turned into a playground, while the area behind the houses was farmland.
By 1980, the houses had been demolished in order to make way for a small car park and an additional school building, which became the science block. In addition to the existing playground, the school also gained the farmland and converted it into a sports field.
In 2010, the school building remained unchanged but the car park was extended to cover the entire sports field. As a result of this, the original playground was divided into two so that it provided a smaller playground and a small sports field.
During this period, the school has increased in size and a car park has been created and enlarged. The combined recreational areas, however, first expanded and were then reduced in size.

The maps given compare the current layout of a college with its plan in 2015.
At present, to the north of the rectangular campus there is a garden opposite to the entrance. Along the west wall lie a footpath and a car park and the south a bus stop. Inside, two classrooms in the south and a bigger one in the northeastern corner can be found, on the south of which the reception and the library are sited. Not mentioned are the seemingly open area for lunch in the northwestern and the toilets in the south.
The college in 2015 is expected to demonstrate many differences including its extended length, along with which the car park will also expand its size. The garden and the footpath will vanish while a shop will be introduced inside. Noticeably, the entrance and the toilets will exchange their places, with the former directly leading to an oval reception. Likewise, the library of a shrunk size will be moved to the southwestern corner where a classroom lies now. Along the east wall four classrooms will be located.
Despite the differences, that all the facilities are built immediately adjacent to each other and against the wall will remain consistent.

Computers are a relatively new invention. The first computers were built fifty years ago and it is only in the last thirty or so years that their influence has affected our everyday life. Personal computers were introduced as recently as the early eighties. In this short time they have made a tremendous impact on our lives. We are now so dependent on computers that it is hard to imagine what things would be like today without them. You have only got to go into a bank when their main computer is broken to appreciate the chaos that would occur if computers were suddenly removed world-wide.
In the future computers will be used to create bigger and even more sophisticated computers. The prospects for this are quite alarming. They will be so complex that no individual could hope to understand how they work. They will bring a lot of benefits but they will also increase the potential for unimaginable chaos. They will, for example, be able to fly planes and they will be able to co ordinate the movements of several planes in the vicinity of an airport. Providing all the computers are working correctly nothing can go wrong. If one small program fails disaster.
There is a certain inevitability that technology will progress and become increasingly complex. We should, however, ensure that we are still in a position where we are able to control technology. It will be all too easy to suddenly discover that technology is controlling us. By then it might be too late I believe that it is very important to be suspicious of the benefits that computers will bring and to make sure that we never become totally dependent on a completely technological world.

The flow chart shows the detailed information of how smoked fish are produced, which includes fishing, a few steps of processing and distribution.
The first step starts from catching fish and then they are shipped to ports. In ports, they will be freezed before being washed by freshed water in a water tank as soon as they thaw. In the following procedure, the cleaned fish will be cut in half, after which they will be soaked in a container full of salt water and yellow colouring.
The third stage involves heating and smoking the fish and after this they will be packed in boxes. Once they are packed, they will be freezed again in cold storage facilities, after which all of them will be ready for distributing and soon food shops will receive these fish.
In summary, the whole process can be divided into several consecutive steps and the most complicated part is processing.

In Cool Climates special attention is given to the use of building materials that have a high “Thermal Mass”. Insulation is used on the outside of heavy materials such as concrete, brick or adobe. This kind of material stores heat and slowly releases it while external insulation ensures that all heat absorbed by the wall materials is released inside the building. Careful positioning of the building and large windows facing winter sunlight also assist to passively heat the house.
The roof has an extreme angle to assist with snow runoff and roof overhang does not interfere with sunlight.
Homes in Warm Climates require the opposite approach. Insulation and reflective roof material aims to keep heat from the sun out. Windows are placed under a wider roof overhang so that they are shaded from direct light in the day and so that cooler night air can move through the house when the windows are open. Construction materials such as wood and steel have low Thermal Mass and gain and lose heat quickly.

A “Solar Still” can be easily made to demonstrate that there is often water in even the driest places. We can collect water with little more than a sheet of plastic and a container.
We first dig a hole several feet deep in the ground and place a container at its center. Put as much green living plant material as you can find around the container. Grass, tree leaves and other plants all contain water. In the day time the sun causes water in the plants to evaporate.
Place the plastic film over the hole using stones to keep it in place as the diagram shows. Leaving a dip in the center, the plants’ water will condense on the inside of the plastic and will drip into the container. We can also collect early morning dew in the center of the dip too.
Evaporation is the name of the process when water turns from a liquid into a gas. Condensation is the process when water turns from a gas to a liquid.

The low cost of land, easy access by both road and rail and the expected boom in housing planned for the West of G township, makes Site S2 an attractive choice for our supermarket. It is also geographically closer to Town H, the other large municipality in the area and avoids the industrial zones located North and South of G.
Site S1, inside the town center, is not a suitable option due to the higher costs. And access for customers and suppliers will be extremely difficult now that it has been zoned a traffic-free area.
Lower land cost will allow us to have large areas of parking to accommodate rapidly increasing private car ownership and attached facilities will enable owners to have their cars serviced while they are shopping.
A free bus service, recreational park and first class shopping facilities will make shopping a family event and the clean country location will be part of a positive experience.

The table shows percentages of consumer expenditure for three categories of products and services in five countries in2002.
It is clear that the largest proportion of consumer spending in each country went on food, drinks and tobacco.
On the other hand, theleisure/education category has the lowest percentages in the table. Out of the five countries, consumer spending on food, drinks and tobacco was noticeably higher in Turkey, at 32.14%, and Ireland, at nearly 29%. The proportion of spending on leisureand education was also highest in Turkey, at 4.35%, while expenditure on clothing and footwear was significantly higher in Italy, at 9%, than in any of the other countries.
It can be seen that Sweden had the lowest percentages of national consumer expenditure for food/drinks/tobacco and for clothing/footwear, at nearly 16% and just over 5% respectively. Spain had slightly higher figures for these categories, but the lowest figure forleisure/education, at only 1.98%.

Dolphin is my favourite animal. It is one of the most precious animals. Their bodies are very long, about one zhang. Dolphins live in the sea. They live on fish, shrimps and so on. Dolphins are very friendly and peaceful. They never attack people. Instead, they have saved many people in danger in the past years. How helpful the dolphins are! Dolphins are very clever. People often train them so that they can give a dolphin show which brings people a lot of happiness and joy.
Unluckily, the number of dolphins is getting smaller and smaller. Because of water pollution, there is less and less space for dolphins. Many people make money by hunting dolphins. If we don’t protect them, maybe we’ll lose our good friends one day. As a student, I hope more and more people should take actions to protect dolphins.

The bar chart and the line graph provide information about the sales of two different products, Product A and Product B, and the average price of Product A in a company over a five-year period from 2015 to 2019.
Looking at the bar chart, the sales of Product A were relatively stable in the first three years, with around 500 units sold each year. In 2018, it increased to 600 units and then dropped slightly to 550 units in 2019. For Product B, the sales showed a continuous upward trend, starting from 300 units in 2015 and reaching 700 units in 2019.
The line graph shows that the average price of Product A fluctuated. In 2015, it was $10 per unit, increased to $12 in 2016, dropped back to $10 in 2017, and then rose again to $13 in 2018 before falling to $11 in 2019.
Overall, while Product B had increasing sales throughout the period, Product A had a more varied performance. The price of Product A also changed over the years, but there does not seem to be a direct correlation between the price changes and the sales volume.
