　　1.As is well known, the CET system has played an indispensable role in promoting the teaching and learning of English in China.

　　2.Although there have been a great many complaints about the CET system, we cannot deny the contributions it has made since its introduction in 1988. In colleges and universities, the CET system has given students great motivation to learn English well. Moreover, it has provided a reliable criterion to evaluate English language teaching objectively and scientifically.

　　3.Evaluation is a key component in College English teaching. A comprehensive, objective, scientific and accurate evaluation system is of vital importance to the achievement of the course goal. It not only helps teachers obtain feedback, improve administration of teaching, and ensure teaching quality but also provides students with an effective means to adjust their learning strategies and methods, and improve their learning efficiency.

　　4.Of course, we must admit that there are still some drawbacks/flaws with/disadvantages to the CET system.

　　5.In the first place, the type of questions is not related to what is taught in the course.

　　6.The design of the test paper seems not intended to give a fair evaluation of the teaching and learning of College English.

　　7.The test places too much emphasis on reading with the exclusion of speaking and listening/regardless of the development of practical abilities of listening and speaking.

　　8.It devotes a much larger share to the section of Reading Comprehension than to the section of Listening Comprehension.

　　9.Even if we have passed CET 4 and 6, our practical abilities have not been developed fully. It is not uncommon to witness a college graduate who have obtained an excellent score in the CET re not open his mouth in the presence of English-speaking people.

　　10.The CET attaches great importance to reading but ignores the ability of listening and speaking, which is not in accordance with the practical purpose of language learning.

　　11.In the short run, it may give rise to/create some confusion, but in the long run the ongoing reform will produce some favorable results in the circle of English language teaching.

　　12.I believe that the reform will have a positive effect on the improvement of teaching and learning of English inChina. And I hope the reformed Chinese CET system would be as valid and reliable as the American GRE.
