gre閱讀筆記
5月26日NYTIMES的國際頭條：IsraelApprovesBush‘sRoadMaptoNewPalestine．
這是關于中東路線圖以色列的最新態度的新聞，紐約時報開門見山的風格顯而易見，開頭一句就是：TheIsraeligovernmentforthefirsttimeofficiallyacceptedaPalestinianclaimtoeventualstatehoodtoday，asPrimeMinisterAriel
Sharonpersuadedhisright-winggovernmenttoendorsethestepsofanewAmerican-backedpeaceplan，knownastheroadmap.我們寫GRE作文，開頭可不要繞來繞去啊!美國佬看紐約時代看慣了，可不喜歡你兜圈子啊!!!!!
接下來介紹了在此之前，Mr.Sharon發表了他的mostsweepingstatement，（sweeping這個詞不錯喔！）引用他的話來說，就是"ThedecisionImadeisbasedontherecognitionthatthemomenthascometocut，themomenthasarrivedtosay`yes‘totheAmericans，themomenthasarrivedtodividethistractoflandbetweenusandthePalestinians."
以色列的無奈之情從這一組句中可以體會．另外這篇文章也提到了Mr.Sharon有可能設置precondition.無獨有偶，同一天的WASHINGTONPOST在題目中就體現了precondition，它的題目是：PeacePlanBackedbyIsraelWithConditions.
它用了一個詞narrowly：TheIsraeligovernmentnarrowlyapprovedanewMiddleEastpeaceplantodaythatforthefirsttimeacceptsthecreationofaPalestinianstate.可見以色列政府內部的`分歧。
順利成章，Butthedeeplydividedcabinetattachedkeyconditionstotheinitiativethatcouldmakeimplementationproblematicandultimatelydoomit.根據以往經驗，好象也沒有那么順利的事情，中東問題麻煩著呢。
有幾個詞語值得收藏：attach(雖然知道這個詞，但用的時候我就不一定想得起來啊！)/problematic/doom，關鍵還是怎樣運用。接下來，看看NYtimesMagazine，里面有一篇關于EDMUNDHILLARY的訪談文章．我們都知道這些天，Everest成了世界的highlight，而作為首次登頂珠峰的希拉里當然也成為了焦點。
這篇文章的題目是：ClimbOtherMountains顯然是otherthanEverest，這個題目非常implicative.
以下是第一段：

多年之后的回憶多少有點超脫的意味．連他們也沒有料到，從珠峰上下來之后，他們竟然從此走上了神壇．＂thepublicandthemediahadbuiltupabigsortofauraofheroiceffort.＂人是多么容易被publicandmedia所改變。
上面文章中提到了Sherpa(夏爾巴)TenzingNorgay（丹增），昨天剛看了南方電視臺的一個介紹誰最先登頂珠峰的專題節目，為了這個問題，EDMUNDHILLARY和TenzingNorgay后來似乎有不和的傾向。
Everest也許真的是一座神山，而這兩個人似乎觸怒了這座山，從此這兩個人的悲劇就開始了：HILLARY的母親和姐姐來看望他時候空難死在山腳；而TenzingNorgay（丹增）晚年酗酒，竟然說，他寧愿他沒有登上過Everest．而HILLARY也說：Aftertheexpedition，TenzingandIspentquitealotoftimetogether，butwenever，ever，talkedabouttheclimbupEverest.Idon‘tknowwhy.
這篇文字里有一句：He（丹增）diedin1986.MywifeandIweretheonlyforeignersathisfuneral.HILLARY也說：Forme，well，itwassad，noquestion:Tenzinghadbeenaheroicfigure.這讓人覺得安慰．人們傳說他們之間的不和畢竟讓人看了覺得不舒服。
而丹增在多年前公開承認HILLARY先一步登頂的勇氣更值得欽佩。
